Pirelli Prepares for MotoGP Tyre Tests in Spain
Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli is set to conduct tests for its new tyre compounds designed for MotoGP during an upcoming event in Spain, as reported by Autosport.
This testing initiative will involve five manufacturers assessing the new compounds prior to Pirelli’s official entry into the MotoGP arena in 2027. The company will become the exclusive tyre supplier following Michelin’s exit from the series. While Michelin initially expressed intentions to continue through 2026, MotoGP decided instead to consolidate tyre supplies across all three world championship categories, including the electric MotoE series.
Pirelli plans to host the tyre tests at the Aragon circuit in Spain. Although a specific date has not yet been confirmed, the testing is expected to occur in the summer and will be limited to test riders from the participating manufacturers: Honda, Aprilia, Yamaha, KTM, and Ducati.
This test is scheduled to occur following the Aragon Grand Prix on June 8 and a MotoGP test day on June 9. Pirelli aims to collect comprehensive data about the new compounds to assist its entry into MotoGP.

After this initial testing phase, Pirelli reportedly plans to conduct additional tests throughout 2026, utilizing feedback from teams and riders to refine the new tyre formulations.
Despite the advantages of these testing efforts, the programme has generated some controversy within the MotoGP paddock. While Pirelli will cover the operational costs for the 2025 development test, there are concerns regarding the financial implications for teams as they may be expected to bear the costs of the 2026 sessions, which could strain their budgets.
Pirelli’s advancement into global motorsport, including their roles in Formula 1 and the WorldSBK championships, appears unaffected by the pushback. The company has also been supplying tyres to Moto2 and Moto3 since the onset of the 2024 season.
