Changes to Google Pixel Weather App Spark User Outcry
Recently, Google implemented updates to its Pixel Weather app, which debuted with the Pixel 9 series last year. However, a popular feature has seemingly disappeared without prior notice, leaving users dissatisfied.
Many users have taken to online platforms to voice their discontent upon finding that the Weather map is missing after what appears to be a back-end alteration. Notably, this change occurred without an official app update, indicating that the map feature has been removed unexpectedly.
The Weather map had provided a six-hour precipitation forecast across the US, UK, and several EU nations, making it a vital tool for many users seeking real-time weather updates specific to their locations. The sudden disappearance of this feature has left a number of users confused and frustrated.
“Why’d they remove it? It’s the most convenient thing that I use every day,” expressed one user on Reddit.
Another user commented, “Same here on my P7. Noticed it this morning when I was checking to see what was coming.”
Complaints continued, with one member of the Google Community exclaiming, “Google is literally allergic to keeping features people like. This is crazy. I get used to using this app and the features it has and then one day—poof. Geez.”
Despite the removal of the Weather Map, other functionalities within the Pixel Weather app appear to be operating normally. Features such as the AI Weather Report, Hourly Forecast, 10-day Forecast, and Wind/Precipitation data continue to be accessible. However, a subset of users has reported experiencing issues with the AI components of the app as well.
“I just reinstalled. The map is still gone AND now the AI Forecast doesn’t work. AI worked fine before reinstalling,” noted another Reddit user.
It appears there may be an ongoing issue with the Pixel Weather app. While it remains uncertain whether the Weather Map was intentionally removed or if this was a glitch, many find it hard to believe Google would eliminate it without cause. Expectations are high that it may return in a future update as users continue to await further information.
Efforts have been made to contact Google for clarification, and updates to this article will follow upon receiving their response.
