Plan C: A Stylish Evolution in Fashion
Plan C is evolving, marking its sixth anniversary with a refined and more alluring collection. Founded by designer Carolina Castiglioni, the brand has embraced the notion that with age comes beauty, and this maturation is evident in its broadened spectrum of offerings that now encompass menswear, footwear, bags, and jewelry, all tailored to fit its signature utility-chic aesthetic.
Despite her composed exterior, Castiglioni communicates her design ambitions with clarity. She has gracefully softened the traditionally strict, workwear-inflected designs, integrating feminine touches while remaining true to her aesthetic preferences. Her work exudes a boyish charm, coupled with a fuss-free, functional approach.
Expanding on her previous work, Plan C has introduced menswear—a debut first showcased at Pitti last season. In a clever twist, Castiglioni crafted identical designs for both men and women, differing only in sizing and materials. For instance, a classic carpenter jacket, made from premium wax-coated canvas for men, is elegantly reinterpreted for women in smooth pink duchesse satin. Elongated into a trench style, this jacket features spacious square pockets and adopts a softer silhouette through the addition of a detachable marabou feather trim. Another standout piece from the collection is a long, pleated gray skirt in grisaille, adorned with a similar delicate accent. This skirt was styled with a geometric jacquard jumper that harmoniously matched the tones, which Castiglioni casually tucked into the waistband, showcasing nonchalant elegance.
Reflecting her imaginative spirit and passion for contemporary art, Castiglioni infuses her work with a vibrant block-color palette. For outerwear, she opts for darker shades, including rich blacks and deep browns, beautifully contrasted with pastel hues found on jumpers, detachable zippered accents, and sleek nylon hoods. Additionally, her exploration of more sophisticated silhouettes remains steadfast, as seen in a strikingly minimalist burgundy dress featuring capelet sleeves that can be repurposed as a neck scarf, accompanied by a dramatic black cape that suggests a glamorous outing, perhaps to a soirée at La Scala.
With her clear vision and innovative designs, Carolina Castiglioni’s Plan C continues to push boundaries within the fashion industry, appealing to those who appreciate both form and function in their wardrobe.
