Two dining establishments in Alachua County have officially closed their doors, one of which had celebrated its grand opening just a few months earlier.

Wild Pie, a fully plant-based pizza restaurant located in The Hub on Campus Gainesville, announced its closure in a Facebook post dated April 3. The statement described the decision as “difficult.”

The post explained, “After exhausting all efforts, we’ve determined that we must close our Gainesville location. Our goal was always clear: to deliver exceptional plant-based food, and we thank you for helping us realize that dream.”

The establishment on Northwest 14th Street in Gainesville has ceased operations.

This closure comes shortly after the original Jacksonville location closed in January. Bart Ortiz, who started the venture as a food truck, expressed in a January 22 update that the decision was made to focus all efforts on the Gainesville location.

“We want to encourage our loyal patrons to make the journey to Gainesville and discover the experience we offer there,” read the earlier post.

In addition, Rock N Roll Sushi, which opened in the Tioga Town Center in 2021, confirmed its shut down on March 19 through a notice placed on its entrance.

The notice stated, “This decision was not made easily and followed much thoughtful deliberation. Despite our dedicated efforts to overcome recent challenges, we have been unable to continue our operations.”

The message expressed heartfelt gratitude toward customers for their steadfast support over the years and reminisced about the enjoyable moments shared.

The notice indicated that employees were potentially offered positions at another Rock N Roll Sushi restaurant located at 3205 Clark Butler Blvd., Suite 50, in the Butler North shopping plaza.

“We have strived to ensure that our employees have viable options during this transition,” it concluded.
