Poco Launches Its First “Ultra” Smartphone: The F7 Ultra
Poco has officially unveiled its first smartphone under the “Ultra” branding, the Poco F7 Ultra. This launch marks a significant milestone for the brand, as it utilizes the latest flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, in contrast to relying on last year’s top model. With this advanced chipset, the F7 Ultra promises improved performance metrics.
In comparison to its predecessor, the Poco F6 Pro, which was equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the F7 Ultra signifies a substantial leap forward in terms of processing power. Notably, there remains a gap in the lineup for a model featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a space likely to be filled by the upcoming Poco F7 Pro, which will be discussed in a separate article.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite boasts impressive statistics, with performance enhancements of 45% faster CPU speeds and a 40% increase in GPU performance compared to the 8 Gen 3. When compared to the 8 Gen 2, the gains in performance are even more pronounced. Nevertheless, Poco has gone a step further to enhance the F7 Ultra’s capabilities.

This device stands out as the first in the lineup to integrate a dedicated graphics chipset, known as the VisionBoost D7. Manufactured on a 12nm process, this chip is capable of performing resolution upscaling, frame generation, and Game HDR, providing enhancements in both gaming and video streaming on platforms such as YouTube and Netflix.
In terms of gaming performance, the partnership of the Snapdragon chipset and VisionBoost enables titles like Genshin Impact to run at an impressive 2K Super Resolution at 120fps without any performance hiccups, even after extended play sessions. This reliability is further bolstered by the implementation of LiquidCool Technology 4.0, which utilizes a dual-channel system complete with a large heat pipe (5,400mm²), ensuring effective thermal management that can lower the chipset temperature by up to 3°C. As a point of reference, the Poco F7 Pro targets 90fps while playing Genshin Impact.
Further enhancing the F7 Ultra’s performance are two custom chips: the Surge G1, which is responsible for managing a robust 5,300mAh battery, and the Surge P3, which oversees charging capabilities. With the help of 120W HyperCharge technology, the F7 Ultra can reach a full charge in just 34 minutes. Additionally, it supports 50W wireless HyperCharge for those preferring a cable-free experience. These innovations assist in maximizing battery longevity, maintaining at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,600 charge cycles.

The “Ultra” branding signifies not only exceptional performance but also advanced camera features. The Poco F7 Ultra touts the most sophisticated camera system developed by the brand to date.
At its core, it features a 50MP Light Fusion 800 sensor (1/1.55”, 1.0µm pixels) paired with an f/1.6 lens equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS). Users will enjoy a flexibly designed camera app, allowing options for various focal lengths, including 35mm and 48mm, curated by this sensor.
A notable highlight is the floating lens telephoto module that boasts a native focal length of 60mm (2.5x) but can be adjusted to 120mm (5x) using its 50MP sensor. This telephoto camera also comes with OIS and is capable of tele-macro photography at a close range of 10cm. Additionally, an ultra-wide camera with 32MP provides a 120° field of view, complemented by a 32MP front-facing camera for selfies.

The display features a 6.67-inch 120Hz OLED panel, offering a resolution of 1,440 x 3,200 pixels with support for 12-bit color. Poco has opted for its proprietary Poco Shield Glass for enhanced protection. The display generally achieves a brightness of 1,800 nits, with a peak brightness capability reaching 3,200 nits. Additionally, it employs High Frequency PWM dimming (3,840Hz) to present 16,000 brightness levels, with a touch sampling rate that can reach up to 2,560Hz, further aided by the VisionBoost D7 chip.
The previous models in the F series had some limitations regarding durability, as evidenced by the F6 Pro’s IP54 rating. In contrast, the F7 Ultra demonstrates flagship-level durability with an IP68 rating. The device has a thickness of 8.4mm and weighs in at 212g.
Other notable specifications include an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint reader, a feature upgrade over the optical reader found in the F6 Pro, as well as NFC support, an IR blaster, dual-frequency GPS, and stereo speakers.
