Police Pursuit on Valentine’s Day Ends in Standoff
SAN DIEGO — A Valentine’s Day pursuit in San Diego concluded with law enforcement officials utilizing spike strips and engaging in a short standoff with the suspect.
The incident began at approximately 3:10 p.m. on Friday, when officers attempted to pull over a vehicle near the intersection of University Avenue and College Avenue. This traffic stop was initiated based on a prior report regarding a potential DUI driver matching the vehicle’s description.
Following the attempted stop, the driver fled, sparking a police chase that lasted roughly ten minutes. Eventually, authorities deployed spike strips at the initial intersection, effectively halting the vehicle’s progress.
After a brief period of standoff, officers successfully took the suspect into custody without further incident. The identity of the suspect has not yet been released, but they now face felony charges for evading police.
Officials are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether any drugs or alcohol may have played a role.
