Memphis Shooting Leaves One Dead, Rapper Sauce Walka Injured

The individual believed to be involved in the shooting of rapper Sauce Walka in Memphis, Tennessee, on March 22, has been discovered deceased in Texas.

As reported in a statement from the Memphis Police Department on March 31, Jayden Dandridge, aged 21, was identified as the suspected shooter linked to the incident outside the Westin Hotel in downtown Memphis. He was located deceased in Houston, while a second suspect, 22-year-old Kevin Brown, has been identified and remains evading capture.

Authorities in Memphis have issued an arrest warrant for Brown, accusing him of several serious charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a firearm in a felony, and theft involving property valued between $10,000 and $60,000.

Previously, the police released surveillance footage suggesting Dandridge was seen fleeing the scene in a white vehicle, holding an object along with a backpack.

Officers were dispatched to the Westin Hotel at approximately 2:42 p.m. on March 22 after reports of a shooting. They found 27-year-old Letorian Hunt, also known as the rapper Sayso P, deceased at the location, while Sauce Walka, whose real name is Albert Mondane, was critically injured and transported to Regional One Health for medical attention.

Following the altercation, Mondane was hospitalized for his injuries. The police stated that this incident seems to have been premeditated, and further investigations aim to uncover the motivations behind the shooting.

On March 23, the injured rapper shared a post on social media, responding to an Instagram story from C.J. Gardner, who plays for the Houston Texans and wished him a quick recovery.

Sauce Walka’s father, Albert Walker, expressed his gratitude, stating in an interview with KHOU that “had it not been for God, my son would’ve been dead.”

Known for popular tracks like “Texas Cyclone” and “Where Was You At,” Sauce Walka has also collaborated with prominent artists such as Megan Thee Stallion on “Southside Royalty Freestyle” and Travis Scott on “Money Counter.”

The investigation into the incident continues, with Memphis police actively pursuing leads. PEOPLE has sought additional comments from the Memphis Police Department regarding the ongoing inquiry.
