Investigation Uncovers Stolen Packages from Delivery Driver
Authorities recently conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that emitted a strong odor of marijuana, leading to the surprising discovery of numerous stolen packages destined for various locations across the metro Atlanta area.
The individual behind the wheel of the vehicle is identified as a delivery driver associated with a well-known package delivery service.
David Buchanan from the Kennesaw Police Department revealed to Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell that the addresses on the packages included locations in Lawrenceville, Decatur, Marietta, and Kennesaw.
Police pulled over LaShawn Crumble on Shiloh Road due to malfunctioning brake lights. The strong odor of marijuana prompted officers to search the vehicle.
“Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered the stolen packages,” Buchanan explained, noting that Crumble claimed to be a delivery driver for OnTrac. She provided an explanation for the presence of several unopened packages.
“She mentioned that the company allows employees to engage in ‘dumpster diving’ for lost, stolen, or damaged packages,” said Buchanan. However, OnTrac representatives have refuted her claim, asserting that such a practice is not permitted. This incident highlights the thorough work of the night shift officers who probed beyond the initial reason for the traffic stop, he added.
Crumble, a contract employee of OnTrac, is now facing multiple criminal charges as a result of this incident.
Buchanan emphasized the importance of vigilance for consumers, advising them to keep track of their package deliveries and to communicate with both the delivery service and law enforcement if any issues arise.
Meanwhile, detectives are in the process of identifying victims associated with the stolen packages, working through an extensive list of names as they reach out to those affected.
Inquiries were made to OnTrac regarding Crumble’s current status as a contract driver, but as of now, there has been no response.
