Anticipation Grows for Suriya and Pooja Hegde’s Romantic Action Drama Retro
The excitement for the upcoming film Retro, featuring lead actors Suriya and Pooja Hegde, is building as the release date, May 1, 2025, approaches. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, this romantic action drama is generating significant buzz among fans and film enthusiasts alike.
Pooja Hegde recently shared a memorable experience from her initial meeting with Karthik Subbaraj, offering insight into the film’s aesthetic and her character’s development. In a discussion with Gulte, she recounted, “When I was about to meet Karthik Subbaraj for the first narration, he asked me to come without any makeup or hairstyling. I was really happy to hear that, as I love working on films that require a natural, no-makeup look.” This request not only resonated with her but also deepened her connection to the film’s narrative and its authenticity.
Set against a nostalgic backdrop, Retro depicts the journey of Paarivel Kannan, portrayed by Suriya, as he seeks to move on from a turbulent past for the sake of love. Once he embarks on this new life with Rukmini, played by Pooja Hegde, fate intervenes to challenge their bond. The narrative promises a compelling exploration of themes like redemption, love, and the unyielding quest to reconnect with a lost partner.
The film’s supporting cast is equally impressive, featuring talents such as Joju George, Jayaram, Karunakaran, Nassar, Prakash Raj, and Sujith Shankar, enhancing the blend of drama and action that Retro aims to deliver. With striking visuals from cinematographer Shreyaas Krishna and an evocative score by Santhosh Narayanan, the film aspires to captivate audiences with both its technical precision and emotional depth.
Produced by Suriya and Jyotika under their banner, 2D Entertainment, Retro signifies their continued commitment to quality storytelling in Indian cinema.
In terms of future projects, Suriya is set to appear in Suriya 45, directed by RJ Balaji, while Pooja Hegde is gearing up for Jana Nayagan, a political action drama opposite Thalapathy Vijay. This film marks her second collaboration with Vijay and features an impressive cast, including Bobby Deol and Gautham Vasudev Menon.
Moreover, Pooja Hegde is also slated for a special dance cameo in the much-anticipated Coolie, which stars Rajinikanth and is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
As the release of Retro draws near, Pooja Hegde continues to establish herself as a prominent figure in Indian cinema, while Suriya prepares to showcase yet another compelling performance that promises to resonate with audiences.
