The funeral Mass will take place at St. Peter’s Basilica, led by His Most Reverend Eminence Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, the Dean of the College of Cardinals, who will oversee the traditional Catholic rites.
The ceremony will commence with an Entrance Antiphon, an element typically shared by both clergy and congregants.

Following this, the assembly will engage in the Penitential Act to acknowledge their sins, succeeded by the Collect, the opening prayer.
Cardinal Battista will lead the First Reading, drawn from the Acts of the Apostles, addressing the attendees.
The congregation will then sing the Responsorial Psalm “The Lord is My Shepherd,” followed by a Second Reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Philippians, typically recited during papal funerals.
The service will proceed with the Acclamation and then the Gospel reading.
During the Homily, Cardinal Battista will reflect on the life of Pope Francis, including prayers for the deceased pontiff and all who have passed. He will also consecrate the Body and Blood of Christ, inviting attendees to participate in Holy Communion after the Communion Rite.
