The recent Record Store Day (RSD) 2025 in the United States showcased an impressive selection of vinyl records, with releases from prominent artists such as Post Malone, Taylor Swift, and Gracie Abrams leading the sales, as reported by Luminate.
Taking place on April 12, this annual celebration of independent record stores featured a diverse range of exclusive and limited-edition albums and singles, primarily in vinyl format. This year, over 300 new titles were made available at record stores throughout the U.S. for music enthusiasts.
Post Malone emerged as a standout at RSD 2025, offering both the best-selling album and single. His album, Post Malone Tribute to Nirvana, pressed on vibrant yellow vinyl, claimed the top position among albums. This project originated from a 2020 livestream event aimed at supporting the World Health Organization during the COVID-19 pandemic. The performance featured musicians Travis Barker, Nick Mack, and Brian Lee. Notably, the proceeds from this vinyl release are dedicated to MusiCares’ Addiction Recovery/Mental Health division, reflecting a commitment to charitable efforts.
Following closely, Tribute to Nirvana debuted at No. 2 on the April 26-dated Top Album Sales chart, which was notable for including a majority of RSD titles within its top ten. Meanwhile, Bon Iver’s new album SABLE, fABLE topped the charts, marking a significant achievement for the artist.
Other standout albums exclusive to RSD 2025 included Gracie Abrams’ Live From Radio City Music Hall (a double-vinyl set), Rage Against the Machine’s Live On Tour 1993 (also a double-vinyl set), Laufey’s A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl (double vinyl), and Charli xcx’s mixtape Number 1 Angel (on apple-colored vinyl).
In the singles category, Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight,” featuring Malone, emerged as the leading seller on 7-inch vinyl. Also noteworthy were the next four best-selling singles: Charli xcx’s “Guess” (featuring Billie Eilish), The Killers and Bruce Springsteen’s “Encore at the Garden,” The Cure’s “Alone” (Four Tet Remix), and Eddie Vedder’s “Save It for Later” / “Room at the Top” (both on various colored vinyl formats).
Additionally, Malone took on the role of RSD 2025 Ambassador, expressing his enthusiasm for the honor in a statement. He remarked on the significance of Record Store Day and his desire to contribute to its legacy. Malone follows a lineage of esteemed ambassadors, including Paramore, Jason Isbell, Amanda Shires, and Taylor Swift, each of whom has brought their unique perspectives to the celebration of vinyl culture.
