On April 15, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump participated in a presentation of the Commander-in-Chief trophy at the White House, honoring the U.S. Navy Midshipmen football team from the United States Naval Academy.
In a significant legal development, a federal judge has determined that there is probable cause to hold the Trump administration in criminal contempt. This ruling relates to the administration’s failure to comply with a prior court order that prohibited the deportation of suspected Venezuelan gang members to a notorious prison in El Salvador.
Judge James Boasberg noted in a court opinion issued on Wednesday that the actions taken by the government exhibit a “willful disregard” for the court’s directive. He stated, “The Court ultimately determines that the Government’s actions on that day demonstrate a willful disregard for its Order, sufficient for the Court to conclude that probable cause exists to find the Government in criminal contempt.”
Judge Boasberg emphasized that the court did not arrive at this decision prematurely or without careful consideration. He highlighted that the defendants had been granted multiple opportunities to clarify or amend their responses regarding their compliance, but noted that none had been satisfactory.
