Directed by Prashanth Neel, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire made its theatrical debut in December 2023.

Prabhas’ film, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, returned to theaters on March 21, 2025, generating significant excitement. Initially released in December 2023, it has now outperformed the opening-day box office collections of Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad, which previously held the title for the highest-grossing re-release in India.

According to Track BO, Salaar has generated ticket sales worth Rs 1.72 crore across southern states, surpassing Tumbbad’s re-release earnings of Rs 1.6 crore. The film’s advance sales recorded a strong occupancy rate of 33.55%, with approximately 135,228 tickets sold on its first day. This response is particularly noteworthy given that Salaar is concurrently available on various streaming platforms.

Despite its impressive performance, Salaar has not yet surpassed the re-release record of Sanam Teri Kasam, which remains the highest-grossing re-release in India with Rs 4.25 crore collected on its first day after returning to cinemas. The 2016 romantic drama, featuring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, enjoyed a remarkable resurgence in popularity during its theatrical re-release.

Helmed by Prashanth Neel, known for his work on the KGF series, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire originally captivated audiences upon its first release. The film stars Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles, with Shruti Haasan and Jagapathi Babu playing significant parts in the narrative.

After its initial run, the film continued to maintain a strong presence, trending on OTT platforms for an impressive 366 days. Its popularity also translated to television, where its Hindi premiere attracted around 30 million viewers. At the box office, Salaar achieved over Rs 700 crore in earnings, firmly establishing itself as a blockbuster success.

The storyline is set in the fictional city-state of Khansaar, where monarchy prevails. It follows Deva, portrayed by Prabhas, a prince forced into exile, alongside his closest friend Varadha, played by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the throne’s heir. As political intrigue unfolds with betrayals from palace ministers and royal family members, Varadha seeks Deva’s guidance to secure his position as ruler.

In the meantime, Prabhas is also involved in his next project titled The Raja Saab, directed by the acclaimed Maruthi. Produced by Viswa Prasad under the People Media Factory banner and featuring music by Thaman S, this film is slated for release in multiple languages, including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. Although expected to premiere around Dussehra this year, an official release date has yet to be confirmed.
