Following the latest broadcast of CBS’s “60 Minutes,” President Donald Trump unleashed a scathing critique of the network, accusing it of a biased agenda and demanding accountability for its reporting. In his remarks on the Truth Social platform, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with how the show portrayed him, suggesting that the network should “pay a big price” for its actions.
Trump asserted that “60 Minutes” regularly mentions his name in a negative light, claiming that the recent episode was the most egregious example yet. He urged Brendan Carr, the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, to impose severe penalties on the network for what he described as “unlawful and illegal behavior.”
As of now, CBS has not issued a public response to Trump’s allegations.
This outburst comes amid a contentious legal battle, as Trump is currently pursuing a $20 billion lawsuit against the show for its editing of an interview with Kamala Harris, a Democratic presidential candidate. Trump claims that the segment was presented in a manner that favored Harris, a charge that CBS has rejected. Reports suggest that negotiations for a settlement are ongoing between Trump’s legal team and CBS’s parent company.
The FCC, under Carr’s guidance, is also conducting an investigation into CBS News, which is part of a broader scrutiny involving other major networks, including ABC, NBC, PBS, NPR, and the Walt Disney Company.
Despite the lawsuit and probe, “60 Minutes” has maintained a consistent posture in its coverage of the Trump administration. Correspondent Scott Pelley, for instance, traveled to Ukraine to interview President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on location after a deadly Russian attack, underscoring the program’s commitment to significant international stories.
In the episode aired recently, Zelenskyy expressed his profound animosity towards Russian President Vladimir Putin, making it clear that the impact of the invasion has profoundly affected his country. He extended an invitation to Trump to visit Ukraine and witness the repercussions of the conflict firsthand.
Additionally, correspondent Jon Wertheim reported from Greenland, showcasing public reactions to Trump’s past interest in acquiring the territory.
In his social media comments, Trump criticized “60 Minutes,” claiming it has shifted from a reputable news outlet to what he describes as “a dishonest Political Operative simply disguised as ‘News,’” insisting that the show must be held accountable for its narratives.
