Creators of Étoile Talk About Their New Amazon Prime Series
For CBS Sunday Morning, television creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino joined the program to delve into their exciting new project, Étoile. This series, set to premiere on April 24, will be available exclusively on Prime Video and portrays the intricate dynamics between two struggling ballet companies—one based in New York and the other in Paris. The narrative revolves around their bold strategy to rejuvenate their esteemed institutions by exchanging their most gifted performers.
Amy Sherman-Palladino expressed her admiration for ballet dancers, stating, “They’re such impressive people.” She challenged viewers to reconsider their perception of ballet by asking rhetorical questions that highlight its emotional and athletic dimensions: “Do you like story? Do you like emotion? Do you like power? Do you like athletics? Then, ballet is for you.”
Although Sherman-Palladino ultimately pursued a career in television writing, she has a rich background in dance, influenced by her upbringing as the child of a comedian and a dancer. “I was supposed to be a dancer. I danced my whole childhood. And I actually was still dancing when I got Roseanne, which was my first writing job… But I never lost that sort of love of it and appreciation for it,” she reflected, underscoring her enduring passion for the art form.
The series boasts a talented cast, including Emmy-winner Luke Kirby known for his role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, alongside notable performers such as Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lou de Laâge, Gideon Glick, David Alvarez, and Simon Callow, among others. Additionally, Jonathan Groff, a Tony-award winning actor, has been confirmed to make a guest appearance.
