Priyanka Chopra Celebrates Mom’s Birthday Despite Family Tragedy

Following the death of Ashok Chopra on June 10, Priyanka felt it was vital to honor her mother’s special day on June 16. In an emotional interview, Madhu Chopra shared how Priyanka went above and beyond to lift her spirits during this challenging time. Recognizing that her mother held a deep admiration for actor John Abraham, Priyanka took the initiative to invite him to the birthday celebration.
Reflecting on the events, Priyanka revealed, “He passed away on June 10 and my birthday is on June 16. I was turning 60, and they had planned a big party for me. The whole family was there due to his illness. After his passing, we were grieving, but Priyanka was adamant about moving forward with the celebration, saying, ‘That’s what dad would have wanted.’” She recounted how Priyanka arranged for John Abraham to make a surprise entrance at midnight, adding a lighthearted touch to the somber atmosphere.
Madhu recalled, “They had requested John to come at midnight, wrapped like a birthday present. Imagine that!” Priyanka aimed to ensure that her mother had a meaningful celebration, complete with music and dancing. However, the mood among other family members was conflicted, as they struggled to reconcile their grief with the festivities.
Madhu noted the mixed reactions of family members, saying, “The rest of the family sat there gloomily, judging Priyanka for celebrating. They wondered, ‘Look at her! She’s dancing! Does she not grieve for her husband?’ But I thought to myself, ‘My children are putting so much effort into this. They’re all suffering, yet this is how Priyanka is honoring her father.’ She insisted, ‘I am honoring his wish and you better fall in line with it.’ That’s just how she is,” Madhu recounted, highlighting Priyanka’s strength and determination.
Dr. Ashok Chopra, who served as a physician in the Indian Army, passed away at the age of 62 after a long battle with cancer. Priyanka, who shared a close bond with her father, has often expressed the depth of her loss. In remembrance of him, she has inked the phrase ‘Daddy’s little girl’ on her wrist in his handwriting, signifying her lasting connection to him.
