Gal Gadot’s Walk of Fame Ceremony Overshadowed by Protests

In a week that was meant to celebrate Gal Gadot’s achievements, her Walk of Fame ceremony was marred by controversy stemming from her comments supporting Israel amid the ongoing war. The event drew attention not only for honoring the Israeli actress but also for the tension it ignited, with clashes erupting between pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian protesters. This incident has shed light on Disney’s decision to limit the promotional activities surrounding the premiere of Snow White.

Leading up to Gadot’s ceremony, the buzz around Disney’s live-action Snow White suggested adjustments to their marketing strategy were underway. The studio canceled its U.K. premiere and opted for a more understated Hollywood premiere that saw attendance primarily limited to a select group of media and a few photographers.

While the Snow White premiere proceeded without major disruptions, Gadot’s Walk of Fame event was notably more contentious. Approximately two dozen protesters gathered, waving banners and chanting slogans such as “Shame on Gal Gadot,” as captured in a video shared by Variety. Despite the visible unrest, the actress remained unharmed, as law enforcement managed to maintain control of the situation. The LAPD reported that while some individuals were handcuffed, no formal arrests were made, characterizing the events as a matter of crowd management.

Amid this tumult, Gadot continued to celebrate her moment, receiving accolades from notable figures including Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and her Fast co-star Vin Diesel.

Gal Gadot’s Perspective on the Israel-Gaza Conflict

Gadot’s remarks regarding the Israel-Gaza war have been scrutinized and frequently resurfaced on social media. In a recent interview with Variety, she articulated her reasons for supporting her country, noting the challenges of voicing opinions in a highly charged atmosphere. She stated:

“There is a challenge for people to speak on social media because there is so much hate going on and so many bots and so many angry people that are looking for a cause. After October 7th [2023], I don’t talk politics — because who cares about the celebrity talking about politics? I’m an artist. I want to entertain people. I want to bring hope and be a beacon of light whenever I say anything about the world, but on October 7th, when people were abducted from their homes, from their beds—men, women, children, elderly, Holocaust survivors—were going through the horrors of what happened that day, I could not be silent. I was shocked by the amount of hate, by the amount of how much people think they know when they actually have no idea, and also by how the media is not fair many times. So I had to speak up.”

While both Gadot’s Walk of Fame unveiling and the Snow White premiere experienced limited direct issues, the presence of protestors serves as a poignant reminder of the deep divisions affecting not just Hollywood, but communities worldwide. In today’s world, few groups remain untouched by the ongoing tensions roiling society.
