Royal Fashion: Queen Camilla’s Significant Jewelry Choices During Italian Visit

Royal fashion often comes with a rich narrative that goes beyond mere aesthetics. This was evident when Queen Camilla donned a remarkable brooch during a recent trip to Italy with King Charles, a celebration that coincidentally marked their 20th wedding anniversary.

The stunning brooch, valued at approximately $10 million, has a fascinating connection to the late Princess Diana. As reported by The Mirror, Camilla wore a blue silk crepe dress designed by Fiona Clare, a favored designer of hers, while visiting the Quirinale Palace—Italy’s presidential residence—on April 8. The piece of jewelry she showcased during this significant event, known as the Prince Albert Brooch, dates back to 1840 and was originally a wedding gift from Prince Albert to Queen Victoria. This exquisite item was crafted by the renowned jeweler Garrard and later passed down to Queen Elizabeth II.

Interestingly, this brooch also inspired the iconic engagement ring of Princess Diana, which is now worn by her daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton.

Max Stone from Steven Stone jewelers described the brooch, noting its features: “It contains a large oval or cushion-shaped sapphire, weighing at least 40 carats, surrounded by twelve large diamonds estimated to be around 12 carats. The sapphire’s clarity and intense color suggest it may have been sourced from Burma.”

For her anniversary portraits with King Charles, Queen Camilla chose to wear a long-sleeved white maxi dress designed by Anna Valentine, the same designer behind her wedding gown. This elegant outfit was complemented by a Fabergé lily of the valley brooch, which Page Six described as representing eternal love and having previously belonged to the Queen Mother. Complementing her ensemble were her wedding earrings, valued at $64,000, believed to have been a gift from Charles, as indicated by Hello!.

According to Laura Taylor from Lorel Diamond, the earrings feature a single round diamond in the center of a diamond cluster, with a pearl drop included. They are thought to be custom-designed clip-ons, as Camilla does not have pierced ears. “Camilla first wore them on her wedding day, and while it’s never been officially confirmed, they are believed to have been gifted by King Charles or the late Queen Elizabeth,” she stated.

Camilla has frequently worn these earrings at various official engagements and personal events, establishing them as a signature element of her wardrobe. Taylor noted, “It’s uncommon for bridal jewelry to transition into regular wear, but Camilla has incorporated these earrings into her style for everything from state visits to family gatherings. Their reappearance now feels like a heartfelt nod to her marriage and the shared journey with Charles.”

During her visit, which included a stop at the ancient Temple of Venus—dedicated to the goddess of love—Camilla expressed her enthusiasm, mentioning at a reception for the British-Italian community that she relished any opportunity to be in Italy.
