Justice for Rachel Morin: Verdict Delivered in Brutal Murder Case
The family of Rachel Morin, a Maryland woman who tragically lost her life in a violent attack in 2023, expressed a sense of justice following the conviction of her murderer. On Monday, a jury in Harford County Circuit Court found Victor Martinez-Hernandez guilty of several serious charges, including first-degree murder and first-degree rape.
Rachel Morin, aged 37, was killed while out on the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail in Bel Air during August 2023. Following an extensive investigation, authorities arrested Martinez-Hernandez, an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, months after the crime was committed.
Patty Morin, Rachel’s mother, spoke emotionally about the impact of the trial. In an interview with Fox News, she described the heart-wrenching experience of hearing the details of what her daughter endured. “When we heard the verdict, it was very sad because we had to relive and see everything that my daughter suffered,” said Patty. “But then, at the same time, we were convinced that this was the murderer, and that justice was served.”
The Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office stated that Rachel was brutally assaulted and left in a state that horrified her family. Patty recounted the gruesome specifics of her daughter’s injuries, saying, “She had, literally, bruises, contusions, scrapes all over her body. The murderer dragged her 150 yards as blood gushed out of her head into the tunnel.” These accounts highlighted the brutality of the crime and the profound impact it had on the Morin family.

Following the trial, Patty Morin voiced her disappointment towards the Biden administration’s lack of response and support during the investigation. She noted that she did not receive any condolences from President Biden or other high-profile officials, expressing her frustration at the perceived inaction from the Democratic Party. “There was no action on the Democratic Party in any way… None of the senators did anything to help search for the murderer of my daughter,” she explained, although she did receive a call from Maryland Governor Wes Moore.
In response to the conviction, Senator Chris Van Hollen released a statement recognizing the verdict as a crucial step towards justice for Rachel’s family. He emphasized that the outcome of the trial brings some degree of solace to those affected by the tragic loss.
Patty described the emotional toll the trial took on her grandchildren, particularly when one of them broke down on the witness stand while recalling the last moment she spent with her mother. “It was just heart-wrenching,” Patty reflected, underscoring the lasting impact of such a traumatic event on the entire family.
Martinez-Hernandez Faces Possible Life Sentence
As the legal proceedings conclude, Victor Martinez-Hernandez is scheduled for sentencing, where he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole, ensuring that he is held accountable for his crimes against Rachel Morin.
