Rakesh Roshan Defends Rekha Against Unprofessionalism Rumors
Rakesh Roshan and Rekha
Rekha, a prominent figure in Bollywood since the 1970s, established herself as a remarkable talent with her captivating performances and strong screen presence. Despite her fame, she has faced persistent rumors questioning her professionalism. In a recent discussion, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan openly supported Rekha, sharing insights into his experiences working with her.
Roshan revealed in an interview with ANI that leading up to the casting of Rekha in the film “Khoon Bhari Maang,” he received numerous warnings from industry insiders about her alleged unpunctuality and unreliability. However, he chose to ignore the gossip and put his trust in Rekha’s talent and dedication.
He stated, “Rekha possesses a unique quality that few actresses have; she brings something different to each of her roles. I collaborated with her on several projects in the past—’Khoobsurat,’ ‘Aakraman,’ and ‘Aurat.’ When I approached her for the role of a mother in ‘Khoon Bhari Maang,’ I was met with skepticism from others. They told me she was often late and would leave set early.”
Despite the warnings, Roshan expressed that his own experiences contradicted those claims. “Throughout our collaborations, I never encountered any such issues. When I approached Rekha for this film, I explained, ‘This is my second directorial project, and it is focused on a challenging narrative—a woman who ultimately kills her husband in the climax. I need to know that you won’t create any problems for me.’ To which she responded, ‘What are you talking about? I only trouble those who do not honor their commitments,’” he recounted.
Additionally, Roshan shared a memory of discussing a role with Rekha for his film “Koi Mil Gaya.” He said, “When I pitched the story, I asked her for her thoughts afterward. She keenly observed, ‘You’re not seeking my feedback because you value my opinion; you want me to take on the mother’s role.’ I confirmed, ‘Yes, that’s correct.’”
