Ranbir Kapoor recently shared that Alia Bhatt once asked him, “Who is Kishore Kumar?” emphasizing the importance of preserving Bollywood’s heritage.
In a recent event, Ranbir Kapoor, a prominent figure in Hindi cinema, reflected on the significance of honoring the past while addressing the future of the film industry. This occurred during his participation at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, which celebrates the centennial of the iconic filmmaker Raj Kapoor.
Ranbir, known for his performances in hits such as Animal, Wake Up Sid!, and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, revealed plans for a Raj Kapoor Film Festival organized by the Kapoor family. The event will take place from December 13th to 15th across India, showcasing the legacy of Raj Kapoor.
To honor Raj Kapoor’s contributions, the festival will feature a collaborative effort involving Ranbir’s uncle Kunal Kapoor, along with organizations such as NFDC, NFAI, and Film Heritage of India, to restore several of his classic films. Currently, at least ten of these works have undergone restoration.
During a discussion with noted director Rahul Rawail, Ranbir mentioned, “Many people today are unfamiliar with his work. For instance, the first time I met Alia, she asked me, ‘Who is Kishore Kumar?’ This reflects how artists can fade from memory as new ones emerge. It’s crucial that we stay connected to our roots.”
Asked whether there was a film he would have liked his grandfather to direct, Ranbir expressed a desire to see Raj Kapoor take on Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, citing his grandfather’s talent for romance. He humorously added that he wouldn’t attempt to direct any of his grandfather’s films, callously remarking on the poor quality of his own early works from acting school, which he claimed to have hidden away.
In the midst of these announcements, speculation has arisen regarding Ranbir Kapoor’s potential role in Dhoom 4. Sources, as reported by Pinkvilla, indicate that Aditya Chopra plans to reboot the Dhoom franchise for contemporary audiences, with Vijay Krishna Acharya involved in the project. It’s said that discussions with Ranbir have been ongoing, and he is enthusiastic about joining the cast.
Indications suggest that Ranbir will take on the role of the antagonist in this reimagined installment of Dhoom, with plans for introducing two younger actors as the lead police duo. The reboot will focus on new narratives, leaving behind the original cast.
In addition to Dhoom 4, Ranbir is set to feature in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana alongside Sai Pallavi and Yash. He is also slated to work with renowned director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in a project titled Love and War, co-starring Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt.
