Randeep Hooda Discusses His Three-Year Commitment to the Battle of Saragarhi Project
Randeep Hooda has garnered attention for his role as the antagonist in the film Jaat, alongside Sunny Deol. In a recent discussion, Hooda expressed his disappointment over a significant personal and professional setback in his career concerning his film about the Battle of Saragarhi. He dedicated three years to this ambitious project, which ultimately faced delays and was shelved following the release of Kesari, featuring Akshay Kumar.
In a conversation with journalist Shubhankar Mishra, Hooda described the moment the Battle of Saragarhi was put on hold as particularly disheartening. He shared that his commitment to this period war drama meant turning down other lucrative offers. Referring to Kesari, he noted, “Production on their film began during the timeline of our project, which I considered inconsiderate…”
As Hooda articulated, it was frustrating for him to see Kesari progress when his own film had already started production. He revealed that a significant portion—about 30-40 percent—had already been filmed before the project was abandoned. “The shooting was completed, but it was halted because of the greed shown by some individuals in the industry,” he remarked, highlighting his unique position as the only Sikh in the film.
The 48-year-old actor emphasized his earnest dedication to portraying his Sikh character authentically. Hooda aimed to rise above the superficial portrayals often associated with Sikh history in cinema. He mentioned his strong intent to respect Sikh values throughout his preparation and portrayal, disclosing that he took a personal vow in front of the Guru Granth Sahib before embarking on this role.
In his commitment to the film, Hooda even forfeited a role in the much-anticipated Extraction sequel. He explained his deep emotional and spiritual connection to the Battle of Saragarhi project by stating, “I made a solemn promise in front of the Guru Granth Sahib…”
The emotional fallout from the film’s suspension was profound for Hooda, who admitted that it plunged him into a state of depression. “It was a very tough time for me,” he recounted, showcasing the significant impact that this setback had on his mental health.
