Kannada Actress Ranya Rao’s Husband, Jatin Hukkeri, to File for Divorce Following Arrest in Gold Smuggling Case

The ongoing gold smuggling investigation involving actress Ranya Rao has escalated tensions in her personal life, prompting her husband, Jatin Hukkeri, to announce plans for divorce. This development comes in light of significant evidence against Rao, including the discovery of substantial amounts of gold and cash at her residence.

Details on the Case: Ranya Rao has recently found herself at the center of a high-profile gold smuggling scandal, which has now impacted her marriage. Hukkeri disclosed his intention to seek a divorce during a press event, stating, “Since the day we got married, I have been enduring pain and distress. Today, I have made the decision to file for divorce,” according to reports from Times Now.

The investigation into the smuggling case has not only overshadowed Rao’s career but has also drawn increased attention toward Jatin Hukkeri. Authorities suggest that he frequently accompanied Rao on her trips to Dubai, where she is accused of acquiring smuggled gold.

Profile of Jatin Hukkeri

Jatin Hukkeri, an architect, and Ranya Rao entered into matrimony approximately four months ago in a lavish ceremony at the Taj West End hotel. The couple settled into a luxurious apartment located on Lavelle Road in Bengaluru. Hukkeri earned his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Interior Design from RV College of Engineering in Bengaluru and further advanced his education at the Royal College of Art in London, focusing on Disruptive Market Innovation.

Insights into Ranya Rao and Her Legal Troubles

Ranya Rao, whose familial ties include her stepfather Ramachandra Rao, Director General of Police at the Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation, has been under scrutiny due to her frequent travels to Dubai. Reports indicate that she made approximately 30 trips to the city in the past year, bringing substantial amounts of gold back to India.

Her arrest occurred at Bengaluru’s airport in March, where authorities proceeded to raid her home, uncovering gold jewelry valued at around Rs 2.06 crore and cash amounting to Rs 2.67 crore. This was part of a broader investigation by the Bengaluru Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

According to information from her arrest memo obtained by CNN-News18, Rao had previously purchased gold in Dubai and falsely declared her destination as Geneva upon returning to India. Investigators believe she had successfully brought gold illegally into the country several times prior to her arrest, resulting in an estimated customs duty evasion of Rs 4.83 crore.

As the case unfolds, it’s noteworthy that Rao’s bail pleas have been denied on three separate occasions, indicating the serious nature of the charges she faces.
