Raza Murad Unveils Dark Chapter of Raaj Kumar’s Past
In a surprising revelation, veteran actor Raza Murad discussed a lesser-known and controversial incident involving the late film star Raaj Kumar, famed for his performances in classics such as Tirangaa and Pakeezah. During an interview, Murad disclosed that Kumar was once embroiled in a murder case stemming from an altercation that occurred prior to the premiere of Mother India in 1957.
According to Raza Murad, the incident took place years before Kumar achieved fame. He recounted a troubling episode where Kumar, accompanied by a friend and his friend’s girlfriend, encountered a derogatory comment aimed at the woman. The situation escalated dramatically, resulting in Kumar allegedly inflicting fatal injuries upon the assailant. Although he was charged with murder, he was later acquitted after a prolonged court process, though specific dates surrounding the incident were not disclosed.
Delving into the details, Raza noted, “While walking along Juhu beach, an objectionable remark was made towards his friend’s girlfriend. Raaj’s response was extreme, leading to tragic consequences.” This violent encounter led to Kumar facing charges, but he managed to evade conviction after lengthy proceedings in court, a process that Murad attended, owing to his father’s friendship with the actor.
Raza Murad emphasized that Kumar had a prior career in law enforcement, having served as a police officer with the Mumbai Police before making his foray into acting. This background perhaps lent an intriguing layer to his personality, both on and off-screen.
