Razer Introduces PC Remote Play Streaming App Amidst U.S. Sales Pause
In light of Razer’s recent decision to suspend direct laptop sales in the United States due to fluctuating tariffs related to China, the company has launched its new remote game streaming application, Razer PC Remote Play. This new offering, which was initially introduced in beta at CES 2025, is now officially available for both iOS and Android users.
While Razer may seem somewhat behind the curve in the realm of game streaming—competing with established services like Steam’s, which has provided similar capabilities for several years—its app brings a proprietary feature that sets it apart. Razer PC Remote Play automatically adjusts a game’s resolution and frame rate based on the specifications of the mobile device in use. This functionality helps eliminate the common black bars that many other streaming services deliver when operating in a fixed aspect ratio.
The application supports a broad range of gaming controllers compatible with both iOS and Android platforms, and the iPad version includes keyboard, mouse, and trackpad functionality. Users can stream titles across various platforms, including Steam, Epic Games Store, and PC Game Pass, enhancing its versatility. Notably, Razer has implemented the AV1 video codec, which is designed to enhance visual quality and reduce latency during gameplay.
To get started, users will need to download both the Razer Nexus and PC Remote Play apps on their mobile devices, along with Razer Cortex on their host PC. After signing in with a Razer ID, the two apps should pair seamlessly, allowing users to dive right into their gaming experience. The app can be downloaded now via Google Play or the App Store.
As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, Razer’s new app could prove to be a valuable tool for players looking to maintain their gaming experience on the go, even as the company navigates challenges in its hardware sales strategy.
