Justin Thomas Retains Lead at RBC Heritage
Justin Thomas continues to impress at the RBC Heritage, following up his remarkable opening round of 61 with a solid two-under-par 69. This performance has allowed him to maintain a commanding lead through 36 holes, with England’s Tommy Fleetwood trailing by three strokes.
Thomas’ consistent round included four birdies and two bogeys, bringing his total score to 12-under 130 for the tournament. Remarkably, he matched the Harbour Town Golf Links course record on Thursday. The accomplished golfer is on a quest for his first win since clinching the 2022 PGA Championship.
Si Woo Kim from South Korea delivered an impressive round, scoring a seven-under 64, which catapulted him into a tie for second place at ten under, sharing the position with Russell Henley, who finished his round with a score of 68.
Close behind them, Andrew Novak and Fleetwood are tied for fourth at nine under, with Novak accumulating a score of 65 and Fleetwood posting a 66. Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler, the defending champion and current world number one, settled for a one-under 70, leaving him at eight under, tied for sixth with Mackenzie Hughes, who scored 66.
Reflecting on his previous struggles, Thomas remarked, “The majority of it has just been pressing and trying too hard. I almost feel like I’m kind of past the point where fortunately you all have stopped asking me – which is nice – but I would also prefer to get that over with.” He emphasized the importance of trusting his game as a key factor in his performance this week.
Several past major winners are also in contention, with Collin Morikawa (66), Brian Harman (69), and Wyndham Clark (70) forming a five-way tie at seven under.
Notably, there is no cut after 36 holes in this prestigious $20 million tournament. However, some notable players are struggling, including Max Homa at even par, Sahith Theegala at one over, Will Zalatoris at three over, Adam Hadwin from Canada at four over, and Nick Dunlap at seven over.
Theegala, who was the runner-up to Scheffler at last year’s RBC Heritage, finds himself in challenging territory this time around.
