Set during the summer of 1987, the story follows Ana Garcia, a young woman from East Los Angeles with aspirations that reach far beyond her current environment. However, her dreams are put on hold when her family faces a crucial demand for 200 dresses, forcing Ana to navigate her personal desires, her mother’s traditional expectations, and the collective struggles of women in her community as they strive to succeed against various challenges.
The production features rising star Tatianna Córdoba in the lead role of Ana, alongside accomplished actress Justina Machado who portrays Carmen, Ana’s diligent mother with hopes for a conventional future for her daughter. The cast is further complemented by Florencia Cuenca as Estela, Shelby Acosta as Prima Flaca, Carla Jimenez as Pancha, Aline Mayagoitia as Itzel, and Mauricio Mendoza as Raúl, among others.

The creative team behind this musical is impressive, led by director and choreographer Sergio Trujillo, who has been recognized with both Tony and Olivier Awards. The music and lyrics are crafted by Grammy-winning artist Joy Huerta alongside composer and lyricist Benjamin Velez, while the book is penned by Lisa Loomer with collaboration from Nell Benjamin. Music supervision is provided by Nadia DiGiallonardo. Additional contributors to the production include scenic designer Arnulfo Maldonado, costume designers Wilberth Gonzalez and Tony Award winner Paloma Young, as well as lighting designer Natasha Katz, a veteran eight-time Tony Award winner. The technical aspects of the musical are complemented by sound design from Tony Award winner John Shivers, video design by Hana S. Kim, and hair, wig, and makeup design from Krystal Balleza & Will Vicari. Orchestrations are handled by DiGiallonardo, Huerta, Rich Mercurio, and Velez, with casting led by X Casting/Victor Vazquez, CSA, and ARC/Duncan Stewart, CSA. The production stage management is overseen by Tripp Phillips, with B.J. Holt serving as general manager and Alecia Parker as executive producer.
