Concern Grows as Ronnie Dunn Exits Concert Mid-Performance

During a recent performance at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on April 3, 2024, Ronnie Dunn of the country duo Brooks & Dunn unexpectedly left the stage, raising concerns among fans. At age 71, Dunn walked off during an encore of their classic hit “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” which was met with worry from the audience.

A clip shared by radio host Matt Malone on TikTok captures the moment when Dunn abruptly halted his singing, encouraging the crowd to join in before he waved goodbye and exited. Malone expressed his well-wishes for Dunn in the caption, saying, “Feel better, Ronnie!!! Thanks for giving us all you could.”

Reports indicate that throughout the concert, Dunn appeared to struggle at times, with some attendees noting that he looked “winded” and was seen sitting down during the performance, according to Taste of Country.

As of April 6, representatives for Brooks & Dunn and Dunn himself had not provided any updates regarding his health following the performance.

This incident follows Dunn’s recent struggle with illness, including strep throat and COVID-19. During a performance on March 22 in Houston, he humorously referred to his condition as “strovid” while explaining to the audience that any off notes could be blamed on his health issues.

In that Houston concert, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” was one of the final songs of the night, leading into “Only in America.” The singer had previously acknowledged his battle with illness in a March 19 Instagram post, stating that he managed to push through despite the challenges, with appreciation for the supportive crowds and his band.

Interestingly, Dunn’s latest social media updates, including a recent post on Instagram, make no mention of his recent health battles. Instead, he and his bandmate Kix Brooks shared optimistic messages about their ongoing tour schedule as they prepared to perform in various cities.

The duo’s Neon Moon tour is set to continue in Iowa on April 24, with additional stops in Missouri, Kentucky, Texas, and other locations, following the release of their latest album Reboot II in November 2024.

In a previous interview, Dunn and Brooks expressed their commitment to songwriting and hinted at fresh creative directions, reflecting on the evolving nature of their music career. “We have to stop and remind ourselves that we’re songwriters and we need to play with that a little bit,” Dunn stated, indicating there may be more exciting projects on the horizon for the duo.
