In the first episode of Season 3 of *From*, the show delves deeper into its horror elements, unveiling significant plot developments, including the identity of the person Boyd was communicating with in the trailer, and the fate of Tabitha—whether she remains in the real world or not.
Often compared to a horror version of *Lost*, *From* continues to leave viewers with a plethora of questions as it embarks on its third season.
Building upon the unsettling mysteries from the previous season, this episode raises queries about various eerie elements, including the ominous music box, the unsettling ventriloquist dummy, cryptic symbol visions, seasonal shifts, the enigmatic Boy in White, and the spectral “anghkooey” children.
As Season 2 concluded, Tabitha’s fate was left hanging—she had been pushed from the lighthouse and awoke in a hospital. However, the question remains: was this merely a dream, or has she entered another dimension? **Warning: spoilers ahead!**
From Season 3 Episode 1 kicks off with Tabitha
The episode opens where Season 2 left off, focusing on Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) awakening in a Camden, Maine hospital. After much anticipation, she learns from a physician that she is, in fact, back in the real world.
Tabitha has no identification—it seems all she possesses are her clothes and Victor’s lunchbox. As she awaits the police, who have been alerted to her situation, she makes a hasty escape into the streets.
Outside, she briefly believes she has spotted the Boy in White, only to realize upon pursuit that it’s merely a regular child, leading to an awkward interaction with his mother.

Fromville is falling apart
Meanwhile, in Fromville, Boyd (Harold Perrineau) is recovering from his gunshot wounds, sustained in the previous season. He is visited by the spectral figure of Father Rudra (Shaun Majumder) who inquires about the well-being of Julie (Hannah Cheramy), Randall (A.J. Simmons), and Marielle (Kaelen Ohm).
Though Boyd strives to maintain a positive outlook, Rudra reminds him of the chaos surrounding them: a community gripped by fear, food shortages, and a long, cold winter approaching.
Suddenly, the tranquility is interrupted by a commotion as Ethan (Simon Webster) returns under duress, having been on a desperate search for his mother, Tabitha. Jim (Eion Bailey), his father, is left in distress.
Gratefully, Victor (Scott McCord) has provided information on Ethan’s whereabouts, despite the young boy being upset with him for doing so.
Julie is struggling with her trauma from the recent cicada attack, which left her spirit trapped until Boyd freed her.
Jim ultimately decides to venture into the woods to search for Tabitha. Boyd expresses concern, highlighting the dangers of such a journey, but Jim is resolute in finding his wife.
Despite Boyd’s warnings based on his own near-fatal experience, Jim decides he must go, prompting Boyd to suggest a safer approach.
Their food supply is dwindling
At the Colony House, Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) is feeling the impact of early pregnancy symptoms, causing concern for her husband, Ellis (Corteon Moore), who now worries for the safety of both his wife and their unborn child.
As Fatima takes a moment to rest, Donna (Elizabeth Saunders) urgently requests Ellis’s help in harvesting what is left of their crops before winter’s arrival.
Boyd, meanwhile, advises Jim to use the hut where the Talismans were discovered as their base of operations for safety, prompting Kenny (Ricky He) to join him, wanting to protect Ethan and Julie from further loss.
The group’s discussion is abruptly interrupted when an object crashes through Jade’s (David Alpay) window, recalling Jade’s troubling visions from earlier seasons revolving around mysterious symbols.
Finding Jade in a disheveled state, Boyd and Kenny intervene, realizing he is in distress, babbling about his inability to see what he has drawn in his symbol book.
Tabitha makes an important phone call
In Maine, Tabitha makes her way to a flea market, borrowing a teenager’s phone to call her mother, who is anxious and distressed, having not heard from Tabitha or her family for months.
Despite her mother’s pleas for her to come home, Tabitha understands that her priorities must lie in locating her husband and children before anything else.
With resolve, Tabitha reassures her mother and hangs up, spotting a nearby church that piques her interest.
Back in Fromville, Kenny is at the diner with Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot), preparing to transport a truckload of supplies gathered by his mother, Tian-Chen.
Sounding eerily optimistic, Kenny reassures Kristi, echoing sentiments that have raised eyebrows since the teaser for Season 3.
In the meantime, Jim promises Ethan and Julie he will take care of himself, assuring them he will be back shortly before setting off into the woods.
Boyd gives a pep talk
Soon after, Boyd is called to examine the state of the crops and is disheartened to discover that everything has been ruined by the storm. With supplies scarce, residents crowd around Tian-Chen’s home, demanding food.
Amidst the escalating panic, Randall chooses to act recklessly, attempting to slaughter a goat beloved by Ethan. Boyd swiftly intervenes, calming the situation and reassuring the community of the need for collaboration.
Unyielding, he reminds everyone, “This place will not break us,” continuing to inspire hope against the backdrop of despair.
Jim and Kenny’s creepy discovery
In the woods, Jim and Kenny stumble upon an unsettling sight: effigies resembling skeletons crafted from twigs and leading to a cluster of cabins.
Despite growing apprehension, Jim convinces Kenny to stay overnight for safety, with a Talisman secured at their base.
Cutting back to Tabitha, she is in a confessional, trying to articulate her predicaments without revealing too much exposed information. The priest notices her carrying Victor’s lunchbox, which carries an address—a clue that leads Tabitha closer to her family.
Back in Colony House, Elgin is beleaguered by his fears of the ghostly woman reappearing, despite Boyd having lifted the previous curse. He confides in Tillie about his haunting fears.
As the situation builds, Tillie senses a shift and speculates about the presence of the malevolent spirit—which turns out to be a result of Elgin’s nightmare.
Knocking on Victor’s door
Boyd, Tian-Chen, and Donna have a crucial discussion about their declining food supplies. With supplies completely depleted, they find themselves at a critical juncture.
Contemplating alternative plans, they agree on possibly planting smaller crops, though harvest will take months. As a grim final option, they reluctantly contemplate culling their livestock.
Ethan, heartbroken, negotiates for his goat Alma to be spared from witnessing the slaughter.
In Camden, Tabitha arrives at Victor’s designated address, where she stumbles upon his father, who instantly recognizes the lunchbox.
Meanwhile, Jim and Kenny find themselves in the mysterious cabin as night descends, realizing their search efforts have veered off course.
Hearing eerie noises from beyond, Jim acknowledges the risk of leaving Ethan and Julie without parents, forcing him and Kenny to prioritize returning home the next day.
The smiling monsters take over
The episode culminates in a shocking revelation of the screaming woman from the teaser—revealed to be Tian-Chen, suffering torment akin to a horror film.
Simultaneously, chaos unfolds in Fromville as the smiling monsters unleash havoc, causing Boyd and Jade to take immediate action to safeguard the community’s livestock.
Julie and Ethan witness chaos when one of the monsters infiltrates their home, compelling them to seek refuge with Sara while chaos erupts outside.
In a desperate attempt to contain the animals, Boyd and Tian-Chen strive to corral the remaining livestock while reinforcing the barn’s defenses with Talisman protection.
However, darkness provides cover for many monsters within the barn, leading to a confrontation that foreshadows grim events to come.
The Cowboy Creature taunts Boyd, hinting at his previous defiance, setting the scene for an ominous showdown. Boyd is restrained, and the monsters turn their attention to Tian-Chen, starting a brutal act of violence that leaves her fate uncertain.
As Season 3 unfolds, the stakes are higher than ever, culminating in intense drama as viewers eagerly await the next installment on September 29.
