Recap of The Voice Season 27, Episode 11: Knockouts Round 3

The Voice Season 27 progressed with its third installment of the “Knockouts” on Monday night, showcasing intense performances as each coach faced the challenging task of narrowing down their teams. During this stage, every coach orchestrated four head-to-head matchups, ultimately selecting only four artists to move forward. Unfortunately for the eliminated contestants, there are no saves available within their own teams; however, each coach holds a Steal card that allows them to pick an artist who didn’t make the cut from another team. By the conclusion of this exciting round, 20 performers will advance to the next phase of the competition.

A key feature of the Knockouts is that artists have the autonomy to choose their own songs, differing from the previous “Battles” round where selections were made by coaches. Additionally, this round marks the first instance without guest mentors during rehearsals, allowing the primary coaches—John Legend, Kelsea Ballerini, Michael Bublé, and Adam Levine—to engage directly and personally with their team members.

Important Note: Audrey Morrissey, the showrunner of The Voice, has expressed a desire to see Adele join the coaching panel, stating, “She would slay.”

Team Legend

The evening kicked off with John Legend pairing Nell Simmons, noted for her impressive previous performances, against Renzo, who showcased his unique artistic style by performing Billie Eilish’s “happier than ever.” After both contestants took the stage, John praised Nell for her “poise” and labeled her rendition as “perfection.” Conversely, he admired Renzo’s ability to navigate various vocal expressions, ultimately deciding to keep Renzo due to his distinctiveness within the competition.

In another pair-up, John placed the “sultry” Olivia Kuper Harris against Jacquelyn George, recognized for her “piercing” vocal quality. Olivia chose to perform “Last Dance” by Donna Summer, while Jacquelyn sang JoJo’s “Too Little Too Late.” John commended Jacquelyn’s effortless soprano and clarity but was equally impressed by Olivia’s confident performance. Ultimately, he selected Olivia for her exceptional control and stage presence.

Team Bublé

Michael Bublé’s first knockout featured Adam David versus Carlos Santiago, two artists with remarkably different musical styles. Adam delivered the soulful “Unaware” by Allen Stone, while Carlos performed “You Are the Reason” by Callum Scott. Post-performance, Michael described Carlos as “unbelievable” and recognized Adam’s unique artistic voice but ultimately chose Adam for his compelling strength, which he anticipates will shine in the live shows.

In the following matchup, Michael placed Jadyn Cree against Kameron Jaso. Jadyn performed “Keep Holding On” by Avril Lavigne, while Kameron tackled “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur. After both performances, Michael praised Kameron’s courage in taking on a challenging song while deciding to advance Jadyn, whose voice he described as cutting through and possessing untapped potential.

Team Kelsea

Kelsea Ballerini reunited Jaelen Johnston and Hailey Wright, who previously faced off against each other. Hailey selected the classic country hit “I Want to Be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart” by Patsy Montana, while Jaelen opted for Noah Kahan’s “Dial Drunk.” Kelsea noted improvement in both singers since their last performances but ultimately decided to keep Jaelen due to his overall journey on the show rather than just his current performance.

Team Adam

The final showdown of the night concluded with Adam pairing Conor James, who performed “Forever Young” by Alphaville, against Darius J, who sang “American Boy” by Estelle. After the performances, Kelsea highlighted the “individuality” of both artists, suggesting it would be “illegal” for either to be eliminated. Adam praised Darius for his invigorating take on the song and applauded Conor for his strong performance. Ultimately, Adam chose Conor, prompting Kelsea to Steal Darius, declaring she had long anticipated this moment due to his infectious energy and charisma.

The team compositions are now as follows:

  • TEAM LEGEND — Ari Camille, BD.ii, Bryson Battle, Olivia Kuper Harris, Renzo
  • TEAM BUBLÉ — Adam David, Angie Rey, Barry Jean Fontenot, Jadyn Cree, Kaiya Hamilton
  • TEAM KELSEA — Alanna Lynise, Darius J, Iris Herrera, Jaelen Johnston, Tinika Wyatt
  • TEAM ADAM — Britton Moore, Conor James, Ethan Eckenroad, Kolby Cordell, Lucia Flores-Wiseman

This season of The Voice, a four-time Emmy Award-winning series, showcases its 27th installment through five diverse stages of competition: Blind Auditions, Battle Rounds, Knockouts, Playoffs, and Live Performance Shows. Notably, Michael Bublé returns as the defending champion from Season 26, while John Legend marks his 10th season. Kelsea Ballerini is making her debut, and Adam Levine has returned for his 17th season following a break after Season 16.
