Reese Witherspoon Updates on “Legally Blonde” Prequel Development
During a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Reese Witherspoon shared exciting updates about the forthcoming prequel to “Legally Blonde” that is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video. The talented actress, who is also one of the producers, mentioned that she is actively reviewing audition tapes for the role of a young Elle Woods.
“It’s so fun to watch,” said Witherspoon, expressing her enthusiasm for the audition process. “I just love them all.”
Witherspoon noted that the auditioning landscape has evolved significantly. Aspiring actresses are now producing what she described as “mini-movies” for their auditions. “I’m doing such a good job. And then now it’s different because we used to audition and we go into a casting office and now they have to shoot, produce, do all the costumes. They have to put together videos,” she explained, highlighting the creative demands placed on the candidates.
She further expressed her admiration for the talent she has seen so far, pointing out that the quality of submissions has made her decision-making process quite challenging: “But they’re killing it. And now I’m having, it’s a really hard decision to make.”
The prequel series welcomed Caroline Dries as its showrunner in November, who will work closely with executive producer Laura Kittrell. This new series is set to explore Elle Woods’ high school experiences, providing insights into the formative events that shaped her character and led to the beloved persona featured in the original “Legally Blonde” film.
The production is backed by Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios, with Reese Witherspoon joined by Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, and Marc Platt as additional executive producers.
