A significant winter storm has swept through Ontario and Quebec over the past weekend, leading to considerable snowfall in many areas, prompting residents to engage in cleanup efforts.
According to Environment Canada, the winter storm warning for the Toronto region that was initially issued on Saturday was lifted last night as the snowfall began to diminish by Sunday afternoon. In Ottawa, the snowfall came to a close in the evening hours.
Weather Warnings Remain
Despite the lifting of some warnings, Environment Canada continues to advise caution. A snow squall warning is still in effect for areas along the Bruce Peninsula and parts of the Georgian Bay region. These areas are anticipated to receive additional snowfall ranging from 30 to 60 centimeters starting this morning and extending into Tuesday. The agency has noted that snow from the lake effect could lead to severely reduced visibility during heavy snowfall events.
In Montreal, where travel conditions were severely compromised due to the accumulation of snow, forecasts indicate that snowfall will persist into the morning with expectations of an additional 25 to 40 centimeters.
The weather disruptions have led local English and French school boards in the Greater Montreal area to announce that classes at both primary and secondary schools will be canceled on Monday in response to the adverse conditions.
