Ocasio-Cortez Reports Record Fundraising in 2025

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) achieved a remarkable fundraising milestone in the first quarter of 2025, amassing $9.6 million, according to a detailed campaign finance filing. This figure marks the most successful quarter in her fundraising history.

The New York Democrat’s impressive total is more than five times greater than her fundraising results from the same period in 2024. This surge comes amid a national campaign tour, “Fighting Oligarchy,” alongside Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), where they have been attracting substantial crowds at rallies across the nation. These events have emphasized criticism of former President Donald Trump’s policies and the influence of wealthy individuals, including notable figures like Elon Musk, on the administration. The rallies have managed to draw significant attendance even in traditionally conservative states, indicating a mobilization of grassroots support.

There is also speculation regarding Ocasio-Cortez’s political future, as she is considered a potential challenger to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in the upcoming 2028 election. This comes in light of growing dissatisfaction among progressives toward Schumer, who has faced scrutiny for his decision to support a bipartisan resolution that prevented a government shutdown earlier this year. These tensions have fueled discussions about the necessity for new leadership within the Democratic Party, particularly after its losses in the 2024 elections.

Ocasio-Cortez expressed her gratitude to her supporters, stating via Twitter, “I cannot convey enough how grateful I am to the millions of people supporting us with your time, resources, & energy.” She noted that the backing she has received enables her to mobilize communities more effectively.

Analytics from the Federal Election Commission highlight that a significant portion of Ocasio-Cortez’s funding comes from small donations, with the average contribution being around $21. Her campaign manager, Oliver Hidalgo-Wohlleben, revealed that first-time donors accounted for 64% of the contributions made in this quarter, showcasing a vibrant grassroots movement accessible to new supporters.

In his comments, Hidalgo-Wohlleben noted, “These resources support a year-round organizing presence in NY-14 [Ocasio-Cortez’s district] and help host rallies across the country in locations like Arizona, Colorado, and Utah.” He added that this funding model ensures the campaign’s independence from the influence of lobbyists, corporations, or wealthy donors.
