A song reminiscent of Justin Bieber’s style, featuring lyrics about “losing myself at a ‘Diddy’ party,” has gained immense popularity, amassing millions of views on platforms such as TikTok, X, and YouTube. According to researchers who spoke with CBS News, this track is believed to have been generated using artificial intelligence.
The song emerged on social media in April, with a single TikTok post garnering 7 million views. Its virality escalated following the recent legal troubles of Sean “Diddy” Combs, who was charged with serious allegations including sex trafficking and racketeering. Combs has publicly denied all allegations against him.
The lyrics of the song such as “Wasn’t worth all the fortune and fame” and “I was in it for a new Ferrari, but it cost me way more than my soul” appear to allude to claims of sexual misconduct and other issues surrounding Combs’ residences.
No record exists indicating that Bieber is affiliated with this track, nor is it listed in his official music catalog. There has been no response from Bieber’s representatives regarding inquiries from CBS News. Notably, Bieber was discovered by Usher, a protégé of Combs, in 2008.
Social media discussions have highlighted the possibility that the song was created using AI technology, with some listeners mistakenly believing it was officially released by Bieber. As reported by CBS News, this track has been featured in over 4,500 TikTok videos to date.
Google Trends data indicate a surge in searches combining “Bieber” and “Diddy” from late March to early April, which corresponds to the song’s initial rise in popularity, with another spike occurring as it gained further traction in late September.
Expert Analysis
CBS News employed multiple AI audio detection tools to assess the song, and several of these tools suggested a strong likelihood that the audio, or portions of it, were produced through AI means.
Moreover, Stephen Stahl, co-founder of Ai-SPY, an AI audio detection tool, expressed his belief that the track is likely AI-generated. He suggested that the song’s lyrics and melody were likely penned by someone before being uploaded to a platform to synthesize a voice that mimics Justin Bieber.
“AI will enable anyone to create music rapidly and efficiently,” Stahl noted, emphasizing a significant downside: “The downside is that everybody will be able to create a song, meaning that innate talent is no longer a requirement to produce a great piece of music.”
Zohaib Ahmed, CEO and founder of Resemble AI, confirmed to CBS News that his company’s tool also concluded the song was likely generated by AI.
Following the charges against him, Combs’ music experienced a noticeable uptick in streaming numbers, with a reported average increase of 18.3% for the week of his arrest compared to the preceding week, as per industry insights from Luminate.
