The much-awaited action sequel, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera is here.
Gerard Butler returns as the hardened law enforcement officer Nick O’Brien in the highly anticipated sequel, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. The action thriller debuted globally on Netflix after exploring O’Brien’s mission to capture the elusive criminal mastermind Donnie Wilson, portrayed by O’Shea Jackson Jr. Set against the backdrop of a thrilling diamond heist in Nice, France, the film initially premiered in theaters in January, garnering nearly $60 million in worldwide box office revenue. In India, viewers can access the film through Lionsgate beginning March 28.
The sequel has been met with an enthusiastic reception post-theatrical release, continuing to gain traction on streaming platforms. Early audience reactions have been largely favorable. One fan enthusiastically expressed, “I just finished Den of Thieves 2; good movie. Mox rules!” Another viewer defended the film’s quality against negative critiques, stating, “Whoever said Den of Thieves 2 was trash—you are crazy, this s**t kinda cool.”
Additional comments reflected appreciation for the film, with one viewer acknowledging the collaboration with Butler: “Just watched Den of Thieves 2, amazing bro! You working with the great Gerard Butler is amazing.” Anticipation for a potential third installment is already building, with another fan commenting, “Watched Den of Thieves 2 tonight and enjoyed it. The trick for 3 now will be to step it up another notch and bring in another big name while also ensuring to bring back supporting cast members from this one AND the first one to round out Donnie’s crew.”
Despite the overall positive reception, some viewers raised questions regarding the film’s swift transition to streaming shortly after its theatrical run. Criticism emerged, with opinions pointing out moments of confusion in the plot: “Den of Thieves 2 was a little confusing at some parts, but overall it was dope,” noted one viewer, while another quipped, “Watching Den of Thieves 2 knowing I’m about to fall asleep.”
Directed by Christian Gudegast, Den of Thieves 2 builds upon the raw narrative established in the first film released in 2018. Butler’s character grapples with personal turmoil following his divorce and departure from the LAPD. The chemistry between Butler and Jackson Jr. has been particularly highlighted, with their performances contributing significantly to the film’s gripping atmosphere. The ensemble cast also features talents like Evin Ahmad, Salvatore Esposito, and Fortunato Cerlino in pivotal roles. As excitement mounts following the sequel’s release, confirmations have already emerged regarding a third entry in the franchise, with the film’s official X handle announcing Den of Thieves 3 is currently in development.
