Review of the Owala FreeSip Tumbler

As someone who values hydration, I’ve found a reliable companion in the Owala FreeSip water bottle. Having experimented with various insulated bottles over the years, none have dramatically encouraged me to consume more water—until I acquired the Owala FreeSip last year.

Recently, my expectations were exceeded when I discovered Owala’s latest innovation: the Owala FreeSip tumbler. It retains the best features of the original FreeSip while introducing enhancements that appeal to fans of popular brands like Stanley.

Owala 40-Ounce FreeSip Tumbler

Constructed with exceptional insulation, the 40-ounce tumbler boasts three layers of lead-free stainless steel, ensuring drinks remain ice-cold for extended periods. Like its predecessor, it features Owala’s innovative dual spout, allowing for sipping through a straw or drinking directly from the bottle. The lid operates with a simple button press, unveiling a two-part mouthpiece. Notably, the hidden straw design minimizes bacterial buildup, differing from the original tumbler, which had an exposed straw that could gather germs.

The FreeSip tumbler stands out due to its new locking mechanism designed to prevent spills effectively. Unlocking is straightforward; simply turn the lever to the left to unlock and to the right to secure it. During my daily commute, I’ve tossed the locked tumbler into my bag without encountering any leaks.

Tumblers often pose cleaning challenges due to their intricate designs, but this model simplifies maintenance with a dishwasher-safe lid and straw. The lid can be easily unscrewed for refills or cleaning, and the detachable hidden straw allows for thorough scrubbing, ensuring hygienic sipping. Although the brand recommends hand-washing the metallic portion to preserve its insulating capabilities, the cleaning process remains manageable.

Designed with portability as a priority, the Owala FreeSip tumbler features an enlarged, ergonomically pleasing handle made from smooth plastic. This handle is notably comfortable to grip, with a slight indent for thumb placement.

Despite its impressive capacity and height of nearly a foot, the tumbler is cleverly constructed to taper at the bottom, allowing it to fit effortlessly into standard cupholders—an improved design compared to the original 40-ounce FreeSip bottle, which is frequently too wide for most vehicles. The tumbler comes in eight vibrant color combinations, making it easier to keep track of your favorite drinkware. Personally, I’m fond of the Eucalyptus color.

This remarkably leakproof tumbler has become a staple in my daily routine, and it can be yours for $45. With certain colors already selling out quickly, it’s advisable to act fast.
