Old Navy’s Elevated Collection with Zac Posen: A New Fashion Vision
It’s been a while since I ventured into a traditional store for a shopping experience. There’s something undeniably appealing about lounging on the couch, sipping a glass of wine, and browsing the latest fashion trends. However, the launch of Old Navy’s new collection crafted by designer Zac Posen—known for the memorable dress worn by Anne Hathaway—compelled me to jump into action and see it for myself.
“The Occasion” line features an array of sophisticated dresses and stylish separates available in an inclusive size range from XS to 4XL, with options for petite and tall body types. The collection is made using luxurious materials like taffeta, satin, and chiffon, showcasing current fashion trends such as bubble hemlines, playful flutter sleeves, and twist details. Sarah Holme, Old Navy’s Head of Design, emphasizes that this collection embodies joy, femininity, confidence, and timeless style.
Initially, it was hard to reconcile the idea of chic and trendy pieces being sold at Old Navy, a brand I typically associate with basic apparel. Yet, Holme noted that today’s consumers are looking for fashionable attire suitable for various life occasions, including date nights, parties, and weddings— with prices starting at just $25 and reaching up to $66.
To assess this new direction for the brand, I braved the fitting room at Old Navy.
For context, Ruby stands at 4-foot-11 and typically wears XS in both regular and petite sizes.
I was immediately captivated by a two-piece cropped tank and skirt set priced at an affordable $65 for the pair. The eye-catching polka dots and sumptuous taffeta fabric exude a relaxed yet sophisticated Parisian vibe, and its whimsical elements urged me to don my oversized glasses for extra flair.

The smocking detail at the back of the tank was comfortable against my skin, maintaining a polished appearance. With adjustable straps, I achieved the perfect fit. Trying the skirt in an XS regular size worked well, but I plan to switch to the petite version for the best pairing options with both heels and sandals. Overall, it successfully met my high standards for quality and comfort.
Sticking to the polka dot theme, I also tried on this striking maxi dress, featuring fluttery sleeves, cinching accents, and a daring leg slit. It certainly made an impression.

I typically find long dresses troublesome, but this design glided gracefully instead of dragging on the floor. The petite sizing fell perfectly at my ankles, and the fabric felt robust and luxurious, avoiding the flimsy quality often found in satin dresses. The sultry V-neckline highlighted my collarbones beautifully, creating a lengthening effect on my neck.
If this particular dress looks familiar, it’s because Joey King wore it at a premiere—if it’s suitable for the red carpet, it’s certainly good enough for me.
Fit & Flare Taffeta Cami Mini Dress

This mini dress features self-tie straps, ensuring a perfect fit while adding charming bow details. The fit-and-flare silhouette is flattering, sitting comfortably at the waist and enhancing my proportions. Plus, any wardrobe should include at least one little black dress (LBD), and this piece fits the bill. However, I did notice slight gapping at the sides, likely due to my smaller chest, which could be easily remedied with a specialized bra or fashion tape.
The vibrant coral party dress also caught my attention, showcasing a unique bubble hem that adds visual interest to any outfit. The self-tie straps adjust the length perfectly.

I styled it with classic strappy heels, although swapping in a pair of nude stilettos could transform the look from cute to simply stunning. Layering a sheer lace long-sleeve top could also add a personal touch.
This keyhole maxi dress holds promise for anyone seeking sophistication in a gown. The luxurious satin feels rich and exquisite, complemented by a center button-loop closure.

The subtle champagne color makes it ideal for upscale events, effortlessly blending modesty with glamour and providing an air of elegance. Once again, I opted for the petite size for perfection.
Ultimately, Old Navy’s “The Occasion”collection has certainly impressed me, and I look forward to their future releases throughout the year. In the meantime, I will be shopping more from this initial drop before these coveted pieces sell out—and I encourage others to do the same.
