Rhea Chakraborty, Brother Showik, and Father Break Silence Following CBI’s Decision on Sushant Singh Rajput Case
Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty have made their first public appearance since the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced the closure of the investigation into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.
The trio, which includes their father, Lt Col Indrajit Chakraborty, visited Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai to pay their respects and seek blessings after the CBI concluded its inquiry. This closure follows a tumultuous period that saw Rhea and Showik arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in September 2020, linked to a drug-related investigation tied to Rajput’s untimely death.
The CBI’s decision comes after an extensive investigation, determining that there was no evidence of foul play in Rajput’s passing at the age of 34 in his Mumbai residence. Following the announcement, Rhea, Showik, and their father publicly expressed their gratitude, appearing before the media with folded hands after offering their prayers.
In the wake of the CBI’s report, several figures from the film industry have called out the media’s treatment of Rhea during the investigation period, suggesting that they owe her an apology. Dia Mirza, a notable actress, took to social media to voice her concerns, stating, “Who in the media will have the grace to put out a written apology to Rhea Chakraborty and her family? You embarked on a witch hunt that caused immense suffering and harassment in pursuit of ratings. A simple apology is the least you can do.”
Rhea’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, addressed the media regarding the challenges faced by Rhea and her family throughout the lengthy ordeal. He highlighted that despite having committed no offense, Rhea spent 27 days incarcerated in Mumbai’s Byculla jail before being granted bail. Maneshinde expressed admiration for Rhea and her family for their resilience in the face of severe public scrutiny and distress. He revealed that Rhea’s family reached out for legal assistance after enduring considerable harassment, both personally and as a family.
Additionally, Maneshinde criticized the media frenzy that characterized the case, denouncing the spread of false information on various platforms. He pointed out that the restrictions during the lockdown period contributed to a surge in online misinformation, as individuals had increased screen time with fewer current events to occupy their attention.
