Former NFL star Richard Sherman reported a harrowing incident on social media, revealing that his home was robbed at gunpoint while his family was present. The retired defensive back, known for his tenure with the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, shared details about the robbery through footage from his home surveillance system, seeking assistance from the public to identify the suspects.
In a post on X, Sherman expressed his shock about the incident, stating, “House being robbed at gun point with my family in it isn’t what anyone wants for a birthday gift. Scary situation that my wife handled masterfully and kept my kids safe. If anyone has any info that can help find these people please reach out.”
This incident is part of a larger trend, as the FBI recently reported that at least nine professional athletes have been victims of home burglaries in recent months. Notable names, such as Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as Joe Burrow from the Cincinnati Bengals, have also faced break-ins, prompting law enforcement to alert athletes about the increasing risks of burglary.
Authorities believe that these burglaries are organized efforts by multiple South American gangs, operating across the United States. Earlier this year, federal authorities charged seven Chilean men in connection with these crimes, highlighting the serious nature of the ongoing threat to prominent figures in sports.
Interestingly, it appears that these burglars often strike when athletes are known to be away; however, Sherman’s post did not specify whether he was home at the time of the incident or if the intruders were aware of his presence.
