Richard Torrez Triumphs Over Guido Vianello in Heavyweight Bout

In a highly anticipated heavyweight matchup, Richard Torrez secured a unanimous decision victory against Guido Vianello on Saturday night in Las Vegas. This win keeps Torrez, an American fighter and silver medallist from the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, undefeated in his professional career, moving to 13-0 with 11 knockouts.

From the onset of the bout, Torrez applied pressure, aggressively attacking Vianello with powerful overhand lefts and right hooks. Vianello, a fellow Olympian from the Rio 2016 Games, sought to prevent damage through clinching, which ultimately led to him losing a point in the second round for excessive holding.

Despite the challenges, Vianello (13-3-1, 11 KOs) attempted to counter Torrez’s advances. He managed to land some effective shots while enduring heavy punches as he fought on the back foot. In the fifth round, Vianello landed a notable chopping shot, but Torrez quickly retaliated, regaining control of the pace of the fight. The exchanges were intense, especially in the eighth round, while Torrez displayed his dominance in the final round.

The judges scored the contest overwhelmingly in favor of Torrez, with two scoring it 98-91 and one at 97-92.

Post-fight, Torrez reflected on his performance, stating, “I was trying to set up my feints and my body shots. Then, my body shots started landing more and more. From there, other shots started landing like my hooks. That was the plan that we had.” He acknowledged Vianello’s capabilities, saying, “He’s an Olympian. I give him all the credit. He’s a great fighter. I have nothing but respect for him.” Torrez also made it clear he is open to any future challenges, asserting, “I don’t say no to fights. I want that to be clear. I want that to be known. Whoever you guys give me, I’m going to say yes to.”

Undercard Highlights

The undercard featured several thrilling bouts as well. In the junior welterweight division, Lindolfo Delgado (23-0, 16 KOs) held onto his unbeaten record with a closely contested majority decision over Elvis Rodriguez (17-2-1, 13 KOs), as the judges scored the fight 95-95, 96-94, 96-94, reflecting the competitiveness of the match.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Mason (18-0, 16 KOs) celebrated his 21st birthday with impressive fireworks, defeating Carlos Ornelas (28-5, 15 KOs) by TKO in the sixth round to claim the NABF and NABO lightweight titles. Additionally, featherweight fighter Albert “Chop Chop” Gonzalez (13-0, 7 KOs) secured a unanimous decision over Australian opponent Dana Coolwell (13-4, 8 KOs), while Jahi Tucker (14-1-1, 6 KOs) recorded a commanding unanimous decision victory against former British junior middleweight champion Troy Williamson (20-4-1, 14 KOs).
