The upcoming Weezer movie has gained more excitement with the addition of actor and musician Jack Black to its cast.
Weezer’s frontman, Rivers Cuomo, confirmed Black’s participation through the band’s Discord server, providing an AI-generated film poster featuring the actor. Anticipating skepticism, Cuomo reassured fans with a caption declaring, “Nope, it’s real.”
Black’s involvement is not entirely surprising; he toured with Weezer in 2001 as part of Tenacious D, and his wife, Tanya Haden, played cello on the band’s cover of Green Day’s “Worry Rock” in 2003.

The film project was made public earlier this month during Weezer’s performance at Coachella, where Cuomo revealed that they had been working on it recently in Los Angeles.
According to a report from entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider, the film is being developed as a mockumentary reminiscent of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, known for their work on the Paranormal Activity series, the cast also includes notable names like Eric Andre, Johnny Knoxville, Juliette Lewis, and Ben Schwartz.
Sneider also reported that actor Keanu Reeves has been cast as a villain in the film. The connection between Weezer and Reeves goes back decades, with Weezer opening for Reeves’ band Dogstar during their debut performance in 1992.
Although specific details from Weezer about the film remain limited, their project marks the third instance of a California-based band getting the spotlight in an unconventional film. Stockton’s Pavement is set to be the subject of Pavements, directed by Alex Ross Perry, while Green Day is filming New Years Rev, a project inspired by their experiences on the road in a tour van.
