In the peculiar video, Kennedy recounts a trip to Goshen, New York, where he was engaged in falconing. During this trip, he claims to have witnessed a woman in front of him on the road accidentally strike and kill a bear cub. Not wanting to waste the animal, Kennedy stated that he took the cub and placed it in his vehicle, citing that such an action is permissible under New York state law.

Following a day filled with falconry, during which time slipped away from him, Kennedy chose to dine in New York City with friends rather than return home to Westchester to properly store the bear cub. The dinner extended late into the evening, and with a flight to catch, he was faced with the dilemma of what to do with the bear still in his car.

Rather than calling for assistance to retrieve the vehicle, he and his friends, who he described as being somewhat inebriated, decided it would be humorous to leave the bear in Central Park, placing an old bicycle atop it. Kennedy explained that this was at a time when there had been a series of unfortunate incidents involving cyclists in the park, leading them to believe that the sight might amuse anyone who stumbled upon it.

However, the anticipated humor did not translate well, as the outcome was very different. Authorities, including the New York Police Department’s Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad, were swiftly on the scene to investigate. Ultimately, the inquiry fizzled out, and Kennedy notes that he was not contacted by investigators until the New Yorker reporters pieced together the story years later.
