Roblox Enhances Parental Controls to Boost Child Safety
Roblox is rolling out upgraded parental controls aimed at providing parents with greater oversight regarding their children’s interactions and experiences on the platform. This initiative, outlined in a blog post by Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman, represents a significant step forward in child safety measures.
The latest enhancements build on modifications made the previous year, which introduced a unique account type allowing parents and guardians to manage various aspects of their children’s usage. These changes were presented in response to concerns over instances where Roblox had fallen short in safeguarding younger users.
With the new features, parents who connect their accounts to their children’s will have the capability to block and report specific individuals from their child’s friends list. Kaufman emphasized in the announcement that children under 13 will be unable to unblock individuals that their parents have blocked, though they will have the option to request unblocking of friends.
In a further expansion of parental control capabilities, parents can now restrict access to particular games or experiences beyond just content maturity levels. Previously, the control only extended to broad content categories; now, parents can take a more granular approach. Similar to the friend blocking function, children under 13 will not have the ability to unblock experiences until they surpass that age, although they can still request access.
Additionally, Kaufman revealed that the platform will provide parents with insights into the 20 games or experiences that their children have engaged with the most over the past week, enhancing awareness of their online activities.
