Rod Stewart Speaks Out Following Allegations Against Gregg Wallace
On November 28, rock icon Rod Stewart expressed his discontent following allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against television personality Gregg Wallace, known for his role on MasterChef UK.
Stewart took to Instagram to voice his concerns, criticizing Wallace for behavior he deemed humiliating towards his wife, Penny Lancaster, during her participation in Celebrity MasterChef in 2021. In his post, he stated, “So Greg Wallace gets fired from MasterChef. Good Riddance Wallace… You humiliated my wife when she was on the show, but you had that part cut out didn’t you? You’re a tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully. Karma got ya.”
Gregg Wallace, a prominent figure in British television, has been synonymous with MasterChef and its various spinoffs for many years.
Reports surfaced on the same day regarding an investigation initiated by Banijay UK, the production company behind MasterChef, in response to allegations of inappropriate sexual remarks made by Wallace in the workplace. This investigation includes claims made by veteran British broadcaster Kirsty Wark, who recounted incidents from 2011 where Wallace allegedly made sexually charged jokes. “There were two occasions in particular where he used sexualized language in front of a number of people, and it wasn’t as if anyone engaged with this,” Wark mentioned in a video shared by BBC News. “It was completely one-way traffic, but I think people were uncomfortable, and [it was] something I didn’t really expect to happen.”
Allegations against Wallace have reportedly been made by at least 13 individuals, with accounts detailing inappropriate comments, invasive discussions about his personal life, and instances of him removing his clothing in front of female colleagues.
In light of these allegations, Wallace has temporarily stepped back from MasterChef. Despite his absence, Deadline affirmed that production on the show will persist.
Responding to the situation, Wallace’s legal representatives issued a statement to BBC News, asserting that he has not engaged in any behavior characterized as “sexually harassing.” Furthermore, Banijay UK emphasized that Wallace is “committed to fully cooperating throughout the process” of the ongoing inquiry.
Later in the evening, Wallace addressed his followers on Instagram with a video message expressing gratitude to those offering their support during these challenging times.
