Rod Stewart and a Stellar Cast Unite for FireAid Concert

On Thursday night, entertainment icons gathered for the FireAid concert, an event that brought together a remarkable lineup including Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, No Doubt, Nirvana, among others. The charity concert aimed to raise awareness and funds for those impacted by recent devastating fires.

During the event, “Extra’s” Melvin Robert caught up with Rod Stewart and his wife, Penny Lancaster, to discuss their motivations for participating in the cause. Rod expressed his long-standing connection to California, stating, “I’ve said this a million times, I lived in California for 50 years! I didn’t get the call; I offered before this whole thing started. It’s in my blood.” His comment reflects a deep sense of community and responsibility towards a place he has long called home.

Penny Lancaster shared her emotional response to the fires, highlighting the widespread impact on families and communities. She remarked, “It was just devastating to see all the images on the news of all the fires and then reaching out to friends and family of ours that knew people who were suffering and having to evacuate their homes, and then hearing people had lost theirs, not just their homes but their communities and places they called home. It’s incredible that everyone has come here.”

In a touching moment of pride, Stewart displayed his knighthood medal, a symbol of his recognition by Prince William in 2016. He humorously added, “You see this, this is my knighthood… Ah f**k it… just letting you know the British are here, the allies.” This lighthearted declaration again emphasized his pride in his heritage and commitment to the cause.

Reflecting on the power of music, a theme often associated with transformative experiences, Rod cleverly remarked, “Not my music,” in response to Mel’s sentiments about music’s ability to enact change. This adds a layer of humor to the serious context of the evening.

The collective effort during FireAid highlights how the entertainment industry can come together in times of need, using their platforms to generate awareness and support for communities facing adversity.
