Spring Celebration of Rodgers and Hart at Jazz at Lincoln Center

Songbook Sundays, an initiative founded and hosted by Deborah Grace Winer, continues to thrive at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club. The upcoming event, titled Isn’t it Rodgers and Hart?, is scheduled for Sunday, April 6th, with performances at 5:00 PM and 7:30 PM.

This installment of Songbook Sundays embraces the spring season, featuring the enchanting melodies and clever lyricism of the iconic American songwriting duo, Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. Audiences can expect a lively evening filled with some of their most celebrated tunes, including The Lady is a Tramp, I Could Write a Book, My Funny Valentine, and Falling in Love with Love, among others.

Under the expert curation and hosting of Deborah Grace Winer, the event showcases notable talents such as Grammy Award winner Debby Boone, Broadway sensation Nikki Renée Daniels, and rising star Charles Turner.

Leading the musical charge is Music Director Ted Rosenthal, who conducts an ensemble comprised of gifted musicians, including bassist Noriko Ueda (known for her work with Nancy Wilson and the Ted Rosenthal Trio), drummer Tim Horner (affiliated with the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra), and trumpeter Summer Camargo, who performs with both the JALC Orchestra and NBC’s Saturday Night Live House Band.

In addition to the music, attendees can look forward to an atmosphere infused with light-hearted storytelling, creating a lively jazz party environment on a Sunday evening.

In reflecting on the importance of the upcoming event, Winer expressed, “We need spring right now, in particular and metaphorically. That means some great music shared in a warm community. Already beginning our fourth year, we’re grateful Songbook Sundays at Dizzy’s has become that happy, safe clubhouse, always welcoming to all who want to gather—performers and musicians—for a jazz party.”

As one of New York’s go-to music experiences, Songbook Sundays is currently in its fourth year, having debuted in spring 2022 with Got Gershwin. Since then, it has celebrated numerous musical legends including Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, and Irving Berlin, with upcoming shows slated to honor both Fats Waller and Duke Ellington on June 1st. Performances are scheduled for both 5 PM and 7:30 PM, each featuring a mix of established performers and emerging talent, ensuring an engaging experience for a diverse audience.

In alignment with its commitment to jazz culture, Jazz at Lincoln Center aims to entertain and educate while expanding the global jazz community via performances and advocacy efforts. Dizzy’s Club enhances the experience with breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline and Central Park.

For those looking to attend, Dizzy’s Club can be accessed by entering at Columbus Circle on 60th Street and Broadway, taking the Jazz elevators to the 5th floor, which serves as the entrance for both Dizzy’s Club and The Rose Theater.

Tickets for Songbook Sundays are priced at $65 and $45, with discounted student tickets available for $25. Note that there is a $21 minimum for food and drinks. To secure your tickets, visit Jazz.org/dizzys.
