Roger Waters’ reinterpretation of a classic continues to create waves as his live edition of The Dark Side of the Moon Redux returns to prominence on the U.K. charts, driven by the recent release of a special vinyl for Record Store Day.
In a move that took many by surprise, Roger Waters announced his intention to re-record The Dark Side of the Moon, a landmark album from his time with Pink Floyd. As he revisited this iconic record, fans expressed a mix of excitement and skepticism. The reimagined album, titled The Dark Side of the Moon Redux, was released in October 2023, providing a fresh, introspective viewpoint on the celebrated original. Its subsequent success in the U.K. charts has reignited interest in this updated version.
The Dark Side of the Moon Redux Makes a Resurgence
This week, The Dark Side of the Moon Redux makes a notable return, reappearing on four different U.K. charts. Although reception to its reworking has been mixed, this week’s chart performance underscores that there remains a significant appetite for Waters’ reinterpretation of the classic album. Notably, while it is not a new entry on any of these charts, it had been absent from them just days prior.
The live rendition of the album debuted highest on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, arriving at No. 4 – the best ranking for the Redux version this week. Additionally, it made its way to No. 36 on the Official Vinyl Albums chart and nearly cracked the top 40 on two other lists. Specifically, The Dark Side of the Moon Redux returned at No. 44 on the Official Physical Albums chart and No. 45 on the Official Albums Sales list.
Waters Celebrated No. 1 Debut
Previously, The Dark Side of the Moon Redux had an impressive debut, reaching No. 1 on all four charts it now revisits. Among them, the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart has proven to be the most accommodating, with Waters’ revamped version having appeared on this chart a total of 14 times – more than any of the other lists. Its track record on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, however, is more modest, as this marks its fourth appearance, indicating a growing but still limited presence among the top-selling vinyl titles in the U.K.
Roger Waters Unveils a Live Album of High Anticipation
The new outing of The Dark Side of the Moon goes beyond a simple reissue; it features a live recording housed in striking neon pink vinyl, launched for Record Store Day. The tracks featured on this vinyl are sourced from Waters’ sold-out performances at the London Palladium in October 2023, coinciding with the album’s recent release. Fans were enthusiastic to hear the live rendition during these concerts, making this particular pressing the exclusive live version of Redux currently available.
