New Production of Romeo and Juliet Set to Captivate Audiences

Rudy Pankow, known for his role in “Outer Banks,” and Emilia Suárez from “Up Here” are set to star in a thrilling new interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, at the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.). The production also features the seasoned Terrence Mann, renowned for his performances in “Pippin” and “Beauty and the Beast,” portraying Friar Laurence. Reuniting for this project are A.R.T. Artistic Director Diane Paulus, a Tony Award winner recognized for hits like “Jagged Little Pill” and “Waitress,” and two-time Olivier Award laureate Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, celebrated for his innovative work in theater and dance.

Romeo and Juliet will commence previews at the Loeb Drama Center located in Harvard Square, Cambridge, beginning on August 31, 2024, with its official opening scheduled for September 5, 2024. The show will run through October 6, 2024.

The cast includes a diverse group of talent: Terence Archie as Lord Capulet, Jason Bowen as the Prince, Sharon Catherine Brown as the Nurse, and Bradley Dean in dual roles as Lord Montague and Friar John. Additional cast members include Brandon Dial (Benvolio), Adi Dixit (Paris), Abiola Obatolu (Lady Montague), and Nicole Villamil (Lady Capulet). The central roles of Romeo and Juliet will be portrayed by Rudy Pankow and Emilia Suárez, respectively, with Alex Ross as Tybalt and Clay Singer as Mercutio, among others.

Production stage manager Melissa Chacón leads a dedicated team, with Dack Justiz and Em Nafz serving as assistant stage managers. The creative team comprises Amy Rubin (Scenic Design), Emilio Sosa (Costume Design), and Jen Schriever (Lighting Design), supported by Daniel Lundberg (Sound Design) and Alexandre Dai Castaing (Composer). Further contributions include J. Jared Janas (Hair, Wig, and Makeup Design), Thomas Schall (Fight Consultant), and Lauren Kiele DeLeon (Intimacy Coordinator). Marc Kimmelman assists with choreography, while casting is handled by ARC Casting, led by Duncan Stewart and Jarrett Reiche.

In an initiative fostering artistic development, five Harvard undergraduate students are participating in the production with assistance from the Paul M. and Harriet L. Weissman Fellows Fund, supported by the Mignone Center for Career Success at Harvard University. The student roles include acting contributions from Bernardo Sequeira and Michael Torto, directing efforts from Dree Palimore, stage management by Elizabeth Resner, and sound/stage management handled by Teddy Tsui-Rosen.
