Romero Supports Postecoglou Amidst Tottenham’s Struggles
Tottneham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has voiced his support for manager Ange Postecoglou following a challenging period marked by a 4-3 defeat against Chelsea. Despite an encouraging start in which Spurs took a 2-0 lead within the first 11 minutes, the match ended in disappointment, featuring two penalties awarded to Chelsea due to avoidable fouls committed by Tottenham players.
The team’s recent performance has raised concerns, as they have secured only one victory across their last seven matches in all competitions, suffering four defeats during this stretch. As a result, Tottenham finds itself positioned unfavorably in the Premier League, sitting 11th after 15 matches.
Romero has experienced considerable managerial turnover since joining the club in 2021, as Postecoglou becomes the fifth head coach he has worked under, including interim managers. The Australian, who previously enjoyed success at clubs like Celtic, faces the daunting challenge of leading Tottenham, a team that has not claimed a trophy since the 2008 League Cup.
In an interview with Telemundo, Romero praised Postecoglou’s coaching abilities, stating, “He’s a great coach. We saw it in the first season. In this second one we’ve suffered a lot of injuries. Players are the first one to be criticised, then if we lose 10 games, the staff can be changed, but nobody talks about what is actually happening.” He emphasized the team’s appreciation for the coaching staff and their commitment to the playing style that Postecoglou advocates.
As Tottenham navigates a difficult phase, Romero’s comments reflect a sense of unity within the squad, highlighting their admiration for Postecoglou’s approach. The players are determined to move past recent setbacks and focus on improving their performance as they aim to climb the Premier League standings.
Under the longstanding leadership of chairman Daniel Levy, who has been at the helm since 2001, Tottenham experienced a promising start to the previous season under Postecoglou, ultimately finishing in fifth place. As the team seeks to regain its footing, the coming weeks will be critical for both the players and management alike.
