BLACKPINK’s Rose and Bruno Mars Achieve New Milestone with APT
The latest collaborative track, APT, by BLACKPINK’s Rose and Bruno Mars has made headlines by accumulating over 500 million views on YouTube within a mere month, setting a new record for the fastest K-pop song to reach this milestone. This achievement eclipses BTS’s previously held record for their hit, Dynamite, which stood for over four years. Fans have embraced the catchy tune, which continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
As fans celebrate this remarkable feat, social media discussions have taken a more critical turn, raising questions about the authenticity of the view count.
An X user stirred up controversy by expressing skepticism regarding the legitimacy of the 500 million views achieved in such a short time. “Is this even possible man???” the user questioned, suggesting that the views may have been artificially inflated through paid traffic. The user highlighted the contrast by comparing APT’s quick success to other top-performing songs such as Blinding Lights, which garnered 885 million views over four years, and As It Was, which reached 788 million views in two years. The user argued, “There’s no way you pull 500 million views in a month without massive YouTube ads right now! Let’s be serious, pls,” raising suspicion about the track’s rapid rise in popularity.
The skepticism prompted a wave of responses on social media, reflecting a split in opinions. While some users found merit in the concerns raised, others defended the artists’ immense popularity. One user remarked, “Bro I don’t even trust their streams anymore…no artist can pull such streams,” pointing out a perceived decline in YouTube’s influence as a streaming platform. Another chimed in, lamenting the current state of the music industry and suggesting that high view counts on YouTube are out of sync with performance metrics on platforms like Apple Music.
Conversely, supporters of Rose and Mars pointed to the duo’s significant fanbases. A BLACKPINK fan stated, “Yes, she’s part of the biggest girl group that is the #1 most subscribed artist rn,” arguing that consistent high view counts are part of the standard for their comebacks. Another supporter reminded skeptics of BLACKPINK’s history as the first girl group to achieve a billion views on YouTube, emphasizing that the view counts for APT should be viewed in this context.
Despite the criticisms and debates swirling around APT’s success, the track remains unparalleled in its streaming metrics. In addition to its YouTube achievement, APT has also recorded over 500 million streams on Spotify in just 45 days.
